Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
I'm certainly not an elite MLS business mind but I do know that running a MLS team to be profitable yearly is can be tough, not impossible but tough. Where the owners make their money is the increase in the value of owning the franchise. The theory is so what if I lose $500,000 on the yearly operati...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Going back to the news that RBC is looking at moving it's worth noting that the Pohlad Family Foundation, and presumably the family offices in general, are located in RBC Plaza. I'm not saying it's going to have an impact on the Gateway block in anyway but I thought it was worth noting.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
I've always thought a smaller scale of Kansas City Live! would work great on that parcel. Have a few levels of bars and restaurants lining Humboldt and Holmes with a covered (maybe retractable?) courtyard in the center that faces Lake Street. Add in a 6 story apartment building along Holmes on the s...

Re: Mozaic (all phases)
I totally agree with Ackerberg approach. I understand wanting to get rid of parking lots, empty lots, etc. ASAP but personally I would rather have fewer amazing, creative, ambitious projects done really well than more bland, standard, cookie-cutter projects completed. If you give me the option betwe...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Can we all agree that new a new design for skyway sign is badly needed. The current "water" background looks incredibly dated and news to be modernized, especially now that we have both the Super Bowl and Final Four coming to town.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'm surprised that LRT has the space to make the 90 degree turn going from Cedar on to 6th but I'll believe the experts on that. Having driven though the corner of Kellogg and 7th on many nights when there were events at the X, even when there is a less than capacity crowd, I firmly believe that the...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map
Does anyone know why Peter Callaghan has taken on saving this elevator as his personal crusade? With as much time, energy, effort and words he has put into saving it I think he should be required to purchase it if he's successful. No one else to my knowledge has come up with anything that remotely r...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
I wasn't at the groundbreaking today but the new video the MNUFC put out today of the stadium was amazing. It's going to be a massive net positive for all parties. Here is my current read on the ongoing redevelopment saga. I have zero inside information so I'm just taking an educated guess based off...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
I think the revised renderings, especially the lowered north facade does a better job meeting the plazas at a human scale. The original rendering with the stairs the exterior just kinda loomed over everything now it does a better job inviting and welcoming people in. The one thing I certainly prefer...

Re: Minneapolis Armory
I'm by no means the biggest historic preservationist on this board but there is enough in this plan where the city should just say no and force Swervo to either make changes or walk away. The second parking level is straight up acceptable and the elevator overrun is just as bad. If Swervo were to co...

Re: CPM 16-Story Apartment Proposal - 1315-19 4th St SE (Mesa/Camdi/Chatime site)
I have a hard time understanding why 30, 40, 50, 60 somethings should get to dictate what the college student experience should be today. Yeah I understand that's how you remember Dinkytown but that's what you and your friends made it not some 30, 40, 50 60 something when you were in college. Now yo...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)
Agreed. With what Opus has been building lately, a full-block, underground project would have wound up being basically Latitude 45, but on all four block faces. Leaving half the block open also leaves the opportunity open for Opus to get a better architect and do a better job on the other half, or,...

I don’t sycophantically defend the Wilfs, I think they did what they had to do to keep pro-football in Minnesota and think the unbalanced attacks on them ooze provincial anti-Semitism. Prove it. Rip the team and Wilfs on one thing. Simply one. Major, minor I don't care just come up with one thing t...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
If you look back through his posts there are occasional criticisms. He just very strongly believes that the stadium was the catalyst for all new DTE redevelopment and that the Wilfs are perceived as uniquely bad when actually they are average NFL owners and the financing of our stadium was pretty m...

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I'm not saying Opus needed to build a new tallest or even anything to complete with the current big 3, I would just like something with ambition. If this was 40-45 stories with the same design I would feel 100% different about the project. I'm not a height for the sake of height guy, I'm a big, bold...

I get the supply and demand part of it but can you find a parcel on a map of DT that is a logical place for a 30 plus story building. Nothing jumps out to me

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I know I said this already on this thread but I'm disappointed this thing hasn't died. Not because the architecture, which I like, not because the street level retail is underwhelming, although it is, but simply because this project lacks any grand vision or ambition. This is the single most develop...

Re: Hiawatha Avenue Grain Elevators & Freight Rail Corridor
It is really too bad that they cannot think of a better solution for this property. Yes it is a difficult site, but try and get creative. Icehouse/Vertical Endeavors was renovated from a brick structure that formerly stored blocks of ice from Cedar Lake. The Mill City Museum and offices came from t...
