Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

There are multiple policies at the city, county and regional levels that support the continued provision of a high-quality, conveniently routed bike facility in Kenilworth or roughly paralleling it. I haven't seen an official bike path reroute that would come anywhere near what exists in Kenilworth...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

At the (considerable) risk of getting hammered again by some of the nice people on this board, doesn't the least expensive, simplest, most acceptable option seem like co-locating freight and LRT, skipping any tunnels, and relocating the bike path??? OF COURSE!! punish the bikers. We all know bikes ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

From the LRT Done Right Facebook page: SWLRT Update We attended the Corridor Management Committee (group that makes recommendation to Met Council). Here is what we learned: 1. shallow tunnel appears to be preferred option coming forward. 2. 1,000 trees will come down with shallow tunnel on kenilwort...

I worked there in the late 1990's. One evening Marilyn Manson came in with his girlfriend at the time (Rose
?) and watched "Pleasantville". He was in town for a tour.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Maybe this is a dumb question and discussed earlier and I missed it, but like I said in another thread I have no formal education in urban planning. This is just a casual hobby of mine and I find the planning of bike/transit routes fascinating. Anyway, Thachter and I believe David (apologies if I'm ...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

Totally off topic, but can we SPUD t-shirts? I just love the acronym. Maybe with the depot superimposed over a potato or something like that. In Seattle we had S.L.U.T. (South Lake Union Trolley) t-shirts, SPUD thou is more family friendly

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I don't mean to take us too far off topic, but do you feel like SW is more poorly routed than Bottineau? Some have suggested moving Bottineau up in the order, but it seems that will traverse more low-density and park lands than SW. Very true. Almost seems like they are choosing routes though old ra...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

http://www.startribune.com/local/blogs/220732001.html Minneapolis Park Board recommends deep-bore runnel under trail if freight can't be re-located. While I personally think this option is laughable, if the MPB thinks it's the best option, how unrealistic should we all think it is? There interest i...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)

The Germans take their walk/don't walk signs seriously- They have "für die Kinder" billboards (basically saying the reason you wait at the don't walk light isn't because they have invisible cars, but because a child might see you) asking you to do the German thing and anally obey the don'...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

If they're "going back to the drawing board" that should include uptown alignments At this point, is there a need to pursue an uptown alignment? It seems like the Midtown Corridor has it's own plan that's shaping up nicely. That and a Nicollet streetcar make light rail through there sort ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Yeah don't get your hopes up. The Uptown alignments will always live on in the minds of boosters who did not have to design, finance and construct them. Just like every multiway boulevard never built they will always be the Right and True alternatives and will not die until Urbanmsper's meet their ...

Re: 5th & 6th Streets in downtown Saint Paul

Yeah, there was a bit of a blow-up on Thursday/Friday when the PiPress ran a piece on the state of bike infrastructure in St. Paul. Russ Stark had the first quote noting the lack of downtown bike lanes in the original article , then there was a follow-up on the paper's City Hall blog. Thanks, I don...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

And make no mistake, that is the problem here. Politics. I think that's what makes me chuckle a little. If the SW line is so important for providing Minneapolis residents access to jobs along the SW corridor, how could a council member or mayor seriously listen to bike fanatics complaining about th...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I bike the "Burnham Trail" for my commute from S Mpls to SLP. If they co-locate rail and LRT, I wouldn't miss that section one bit. As a matter of fact, I would be happy to see the elimination of one of the worst bike/street crossings in Minneapolis. Bikers blow through the stop sign on t...
