Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Did all the people claiming to love the Kenilworth trails not notice all the signs saying the area is owned by Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority?!! The Midtown Greenway is owned by Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority too (along with Cedar Lake Trail, LRT trail etc) lets just wiped...

Re: Midtown Corridor

The biggest challenge in grade separation comes along the Greenway and then what you would do for the 1.6 mile stretch of Summit without the parwkway. Lots of mansions, churches, etc (high-rollers) that wouldn't be happy about the disruption from c&c (understandably). A heritage trolley with tu...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

^^Thanks for that helpful information. In a perfect world, a Hennepin tunnel would be my ideal alignment. It seems that if Lyndale at-grade were possible--if flawed--a Hennepin tunnel should have been able to begin south of and thus not disrupting the Lowry Hill Tunnel, just by veering off of where...

Re: U of M Bike Trail

I saw that was openly recently and also recently just discovered that that bridge is a bike-pedestrian bridge. Very nice views from there.
Yeah that has been a Bike/Ped bridge since 2000 I believe. Too bad it is hard to access it, although the new trail plus the Bluff Street trail will help a lot

and now they have a lrt system they are continually adding to, to go along with their modern streetcar in tacoma, modern streetcar at south lake union, and their historic streetcar. they are also adding to those systems currently. they had plans for a massive expansion of the monorail system not th...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

I think the density of the N-S bus service in south Minneapolis works against this type of argument. There are major bus routes spaced about a half-mile apart running south through the densest parts of this area, and there's nothing particularly magical about the 18 on Nicollet that makes it better...

Re: The Interchange

But we all know The Interchange is not a transit project.
A- frickin' -men.
Wish the city/county would admit that, one second thought I don't because it would be a PR nightmare. Be nice if they focused on substance rather than style though.

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

I wrote a post today about how rail planning in Minneapolis seems to be upside-down. We're looking at a light-rail corridor for Southwest that's bordering on becoming heavy rail (which is defined as fully grade-separated subway/elevated rapid transit), while we're talking about streetcars along Nic...

Re: The Interchange

i thought there was already a bus station in the 4th st ramp. i know people who take southwest bus from chanhassen and it drops off and picks up there. (for twins games) Yep, and that's what I said to the people that were lost. Of course there is B ramp too, which has most of the local routes (exce...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Actually this is a question I've long had about local activists' vision for cycle tracks. Are they supposed to be a 'bike-safe' sidewalk space or a high-quality facility intended for travel throughout the region? There is a big difference, since an facility where people are encouraged to ride slowl...

Re: The Interchange

Just last night someone asked where to catch the South West Transit bus to Edina (I know this will eventually be eliminated for the Green Line extension). Nobody really knew besides along side 3rd ave north there are bus stops from 394. Why isn't there plans to consolidate bus platforms and make rid...

Re: I-35W - New S 4th St ramp and northbound aux lane

I want a cycle track on Washington because they are businesses on Washington and cycle tracks are good for businesses; The trouble with comparing that NYC study to Washington Ave is that the 8th/9th Ave cycle tracks have few competitors for high-quality comfortable cycle facilities traveling in the...

Re: I-35W - New S 4th St ramp and northbound aux lane

I know we're getting a little crazy here and probably have a general thread for Washington Ave, but I'm going to again express my confusion with the obsession over a cycle track on Washington. Would it not be preferrable to make 2nd Street the most badass cycle facility downtown? It has much lower ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Example being making getting from downtown hotels to Eat Street fast enough that out of towners would use transit instead of getting in their car (or renting one in the first place). Or getting people from Lake/Nicollet up to St Anthony Main in under 20 minutes. Nicollet Mall congestion with local ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Meh. At least this the parking lot can be developed into a higher and better use. In Uptown, Whittier, Lyndale as long as a few elderly people like a building it stays. The way the city council has acted recently there is zero opportunity for redevelopment of standing residential properties. Might ...

Re: Best/Worst Retail Centers in Twin Cities?

In my opinion either Block E, City Center or Gaviidae Commons could be tore down for a city square.
They are easily accessible by bikes and pedestrians.
Sorry, forgot the point of the thread.

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

It may have been posted here before, but this series by Jarrett Walker is what started tipping the scales for me on streetcars vs BRT, and his premises in general about defining technology vs defining level of service really speak to me in how we design a transit system or line: http://www.humantra...
