Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)

I was at Cowbly Slim's the other day for lunch, and they mentioned they are closing the last weekend in September. One would assume construction would start sometime this fall.

Re: WaHu Student Housing - (1016 Washington Avenue Southeast

I really like the look of this one. You have the tall tower on the main corner. There is tons of depth with the entire project. And the design is nothing like everything else that has been put up recently. I welcome it.

Re: Green Line (Central)

So, will it be in 5 or 10 years when they have to completely re-do the Washington Ave bridge and shut down the light rail for 2 years? I still cannot believe they didnt do this initially. That bridge is a pile. I remeber when the outside portion of the upper level was closed because they felt the su...

Re: Mozaic

This thing is hideous. No further discussion on that point required. If I were the city I would force him to make it look better though. There has to be some kind of facade he can add to it to make it look better. To have the largest structure in Uptown be a hideous parking garage. It really ruins ...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

I think it would be a good idea to close down one of the streets that run the opposite way. Maybe 5th St that the light rail runs down. Just have the light rail, and then larger sidewalks. Go from stadium to stadium.

Re: Nicollet Residences

I dont think mixed use with office and apartments would be smart for a developer. I would think eventually the plan would be to turn these apartments into condos. That goes out the door if you add an office component. When you have a mixed use property, it is a lot harder for the condo buyer to get ...

Re: UTEC Student Housing

I agree with mnmike. I walked by this building almost every day for 4 years, and never thought anything of it. And I am a guy that loves history. The building does nothing for me, and always thought it was a waste of a prime location.

Wasnt there a proposal with a 30 story condo tower with a 20 story next to it? Or was that the Power's site?

Re: 222

I too would have liked to see taller buildings. But I think most of that is because I remember what was originally planned for that site about 5-6 years ago.

Re: Mozaic

The ramp does not bother me as much as it does most. From most vantage points, you dont notice it all that much. From Hennepin and Lake, it is blocked by the older buildings that surround the building. From the walk way, it will have that nice green wall, plus the new building in a few years blockin...

Re: Nicollet Residences

What I was trying to say, was that even if they only make it 27 stories, I doubt they will have any trouble filling it. We would all love more floors, but I am sure they could only finance enough for 27.

Re: Nicollet Residences

Even if the building was 36 floors, hypothetically you would still have all the apartments filled from the 27th floor down.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ

I just read the article on the Strib site before coming here and was very unimpressed by 9 stories. But seeing that rendering, that is a great building and a will fit in great. Also curious to the late start. Should approval really take that long? The city should have this approved next week!!

Re: Minneapolis Armory

Maybe a better location for a tennis center would be the area currently occupied by the city impound lot along the Cedar Lake Trail. That whole area is a little off the beaten path, but still close enough to all the action. It would be on a SWLRT stop. And even though I know there is talk of grand d...

Re: 1016 Washington Ave. S.E. (Arby's site)

Not sure about a hotel or upscale apartments. But a grocery store is needed for the U. And I actually think an Apple store would kill in this location or somewhere in Dinkytown. You have 50,000 students concentrated in this little area, and I bet 90% of them have some sort of Apple product. And it i...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

I would like to see Uptown become more of a 2nd downtown in MPLS. 4-5 commercial and residential buildings between 15-25 stories. I think Uptown could really use some commercial office space down there to liven it up during the day.

Tried copying a photo, didn't work. Go to Google Images, and type in IDS Center Construction. Only 1 pic on there that I found, it is when construction was about half way done.

Maybe the city can pass a law only allowing birds to migrate thru the city during the day. Otherwise, they can take the loop and go around the city. :)

Re: Mall of America

I would love to see Zara go in. I went to their store in NYC this spring, and liked their selection a lot. Really nice clothes for men, and not too high of price. Would be a great addition.
