Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
No kidding...maybe you should talk to them and let us know what you find out. I have many other things to do. Perhaps you can go talk to them yourself rather than asking others to do your legwork. Sorry, I should not have responded with snark. I didn't actually think there was a silver bullet (I do...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
nobody has presented a silver bullet. That's because there isn't one. It's going to take lots of different policy and, frankly, experimentation to come up with something better. This is not a short-term effort. I do not have any answers but I'll bet the people over at MICAH, HJC, etc. have some. No...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
The issue I see, however, with the assertion that concentrated poverty will not be a "real problem if government actually commits to providing services to those areas" is that communities characterized by high rates of poverty and comprised primarily of people of color tend not to have th...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
I'm not super convinced that concentration of poverty (especially the "racially concentrated" poverty idea) is a real problem if the government actually commits to providing services to those areas THANK YOU I think it is fair to critically examine the idea of racially concentrated povert...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
@beige_box, is it fair to say that your solution to the affordability crisis is to build affordable housing in desirable neighborhoods as a means of discouraging high income/wealth households from living there? That is how I read this quote in your post above: My solution was to have the government ...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
The type of person the original proposal was marketed to are high-income Baby Boomers living in the suburbs, many of whom would likely rent a 1-bedroom here while still owning a two-car-garage home in Maple Grove... In truth, a massive influx of wealthy older folks eager to flex their disposable in...

Re: Road Crime
I completely agree. Anecdata: I see Minneapolis school buses driving unnecessarily fast down my narrow residential street near Bancroft Elementary all the time. Just this morning I saw a Minneapolis bus swerve away from a bike at the last second, I would guess either because the driver didn't see th...

Re: Minneapolis Armory
I completely agree that it is not clear if the work they are doing now is final or if there will be future iterations. That is precisely why I'm interested in whether or not there has been some sort of approved plan that might be able to shed some light on the matter. I'm hopeful that whatever they ...

Re: Minneapolis Armory
So maybe it is safe to assume at this point that any work on the roof will not have a major impact. It just looks like they are replacing the copper bands with a blue stripe, which given its prominence due to the curved roof, would be a shame.

Re: Minneapolis Armory
I'd agree that there should be some sort of historic preservation review for the building, but I am wondering if anyone knows for certain whether a review has actually taken place (or was even required for this particular parcel). I did some snooping around the Minneapolis property search website an...

Re: Minneapolis Armory
Since the armory is on the National Register of Historic Places, but not a City-designated historic resource (at least not that I can tell from the city's historic preservation map), did any of the renovation work have to get pre-approved? I didn't see anything go before the city's historic preserva...
