Re: Rochester
It's a small building that's not a part of the development site. For many years, it was the office for the Rochester Honkers baseball team whose stadium is across the river.

Re: Richfield - 66th Street - General Topics
If there's going to be TIF, it needs to be for something far more ambitious than this. Even district parking under some more housing for something like Penn/American. If they're going to pitch a low-value Woodbury Target/HyVee + 4 outlot drive throughs, I see no reason why the city should help fund ...

A block of Northeast Mpls is planning an assault on housing abundance by planning a spot amendment of Minneapolis 2040 built form along Central Ave.

Going to a wealthy south metro suburban public school did that too.

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
No post on here yet about 635 Van Buren NE? This parcel nearly backs up to Central Ave where it curves towards downtown, to deconstruct 1970s SFH and build a 23-unit 4-story multifamily building with no on-site parking but an interior "bike hub" with 32 bike parking spaces. It met current ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Long ago before D-Line planning, I dreamed of Park Ave becoming a rail tram + two-way cycletrack corridor, with one lane + parking for local residents. I'm not sure what speeds LRT/trams can go where they are using signaling tied to stoplights rather than full freight rail style grade crossings. But...

Re: Fantasy maps
I can't imagine a greenway above a tunneled rail line, but Minneapolis should definitely be figuring out how to extract a Central Ave grade separation as part of the CP-KCS merger talks. Lots more traffic will go through this corridor in a few years.

What ever happened to June? But it's wild how many vaporware projects actually get quite far and are taken seriously. Remember North American High Speed Rail Corp or whatever? They had their sign on an office tower in Bloomington. Seeking EB-5 visas for funding. "Social Wendy" etc. https:/...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Long ago there were some maps floating around, and the best idea seemed to be adjusting Bloomington to de-skew the intersection on a new bridge. This current intersection is messed up because the extreme skew results in people driving into the crosswalk (without realizing it) to bypass motorists wai...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Big picture though, there are definitely some missed opportunities with the Orange Line. Center stations at 38th St and Franklin Ave would have been great, along with a station at Nicollet (short walk to Hub redevelopment, anyone?).

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting
From a business standpoint, it's perfectly reasonable to focus your extremely expensive infrastructure buildout on the areas that are most likely to give you a quick return on investment. It's the city's job, imo, to force utilities to serve the entire city via the franchise agreements, just like t...

Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?
Tabled crosswalks with refuge islands set back from the roundabout. I'd feel far safer crossing there than a stoplight intersection where someone may be taking a fast left turn into me with a permissive green.

Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?
Yes, build a roundabout there. But also route the river bike path underneath the Franklin Bridge with ramps to the roundabout on both sides of the approach. This would allow for people to safely bike from both directions on the Franklin Bridge to the river path with simple loops. Probably would requ...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
Interesting to see the ideas that come and go for this area of Rosemount... A munitions plant that closes as soon as it opens. Talk in the 90s of a cargo-only airport. Then talk about a radical self-sustaining community (like Jonathan or MXC). And now a boring subdivison.
