If anything, O'Malley is staking out the territory of Vice-presidential attack dog, if his performance at the DNC meeting here is any indication.

Minnesota Black Median Household Income drops 14% in a single year, is now lower than in Mississippi. Unemployment for Blacks remains stable and other races had slight gains in income: http://www.startribune.com/black-household-income-plunges-in-minnesota/327978161/ That's pretty significant. What ...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
You keep saying that and everyone else is telling you, "no, it's not that simple." But what's not so simple? Is lack of housing not the fundamental problem? Even beige_box says we need more housing, we just differ on what should be built and how it should be built. Are you saying that the...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
There's always something wrong. This so much. As for the Stillwater thing, while we can't connect it to the cities with this project, a LRT/BRT project along highway 36 could do so. If I recall correctly from Metro Transit's highway BRT study, highway 36 had the highest marginal 2030 ridership from...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
There is a lot of utility in putting stations in downtown areas, which are generally preferable to park and rides, though both have their uses. On a low-priority project like this, the marginal benefits from [having a station in downtown stillwater] vs [having a station on the outskirts where people...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
I would imagine a station in Oakdale could sustain itself, though probably not Elk Mound. Instead of having a station at Elk Mound, the trains could back out of the station in Eau Claire ala the Interchange and serve a final station 10 miles north in Chippewa Falls.

Also I'd like to know how the stadium is taking money away from schools and our infrastructure? Opportunity cost. Money from a finite pool spent on this is money that cannot be spent on something else more useful to us as a society. You could theoretically just keep raising taxes to cover everythin...

I fully agree with you David, and your points are basically the caveats I made. I was mostly just representing the author's argument clearly so it could be addressed. The movement's narrow focus has been helpful for getting it's demands addressed, and its focus should remain narrow until said demand...

While I've only been watching this conversation since I haven't had much to say, I think I know exactly what Didier (and the author of the article) is saying now. Anyone remember Occupy Wall Street? The concern being brought up about the Black Lives Matter movement (in this instance) is NOT a "...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
There is a spectrum of complaints. This is literally 3A and 3C, with both sides setting up the same strawmen to knock down (the complaints are about avoiding density/NIMBYism/etc), when in reality opinions on Bottineau can be more complex than that and span both sides. As far as the people who live ...

Spending $6 million extra because a contract isn't politically correct enough What the what? The contract for the Minnesota approach road was awarded to Ames/Lunda for $58 million, instead of McCrosson for $52 million, because McCrosson had too many of the subs owned by white males. Well obviously ...
