Re: Empire Builder
It's really sad I can't use Amtrak this weekend. I can't take off work Friday just to buffer in a day to get to Madison. Really unfortunate since if it was reliable this would be perfect for many of my trips to Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago. Do they allow last minute cancels? If so, I could buy a t...

Re: Empire Builder
So the Empire Builder is late quite a bit? I need to get to the Madison area on Saturday morning in time for a late afternoon wedding. I'd love to take the Empire Builder there but I don't know if I can trust that it would be on time.

The land may be a majority of single family residences whereas the population may be a majority of multi-family housing dwellers.

Parking Ramp Retrofits
Anyone aware of an example when a neighborhood-hostile parking complex was retrofit to make the block more appealing to pedestrians? In some cases, it seems like housing could "wrap" ramps if there's space between the ramp and the sidewalk. In other cases, maybe there's a way to convert pa...

Re: Renting vs. Owning
I've never really rented other than student housing in college. I have a SFH in S. Mpls and an investment SFH in Roch. Anyone on here have a condo as an investment property? Or how does it compare to a SFH from an investment, not residence, perspective?

Re: U.S. Highway 14
Related to this project, the geometry of the old west Hwy 14 interchange at 35 is bad. It squeezes ramps in to fit over the DM&E RR. There's a lot of traffic here too getting around the town. Whenever this section of 35 is rehabbed, it might make sense to put in lanes between the ramps, CR45 to ...

Re: Park and Portland
I'm skeptical because of the annual conversion of the streets to defacto two lane streets during late winter. I think without obvious and permanent structures in the ROW it will not be clear which side of parking is compromised for snow storage and it will be a mess. Prove me wrong! I like either op...

Re: Uptown Theatre
I thought the McDonalds was the heart of some uptown music scene that existed before a lot of us were born, so people think it is historic or culturally significant.

I can't believe there's no 3+ story development on either side of Hennepin between Lake and Lagoon.

Isn't part of Uptown's cachet that it's close to so many businesses? Is Meg concerned more with a Trader Joe's than with the national chain bro bars coming in?

This is why the new 610 bridge is needed... http://goo.gl/maps/HRu6e Sad, considering that bridge is probably <20 years old.

Re: Northstar
Just found another document.... http://www.dot.state.mn.us/federalrecovery/docs/bnsfpassengerrail.pdf Although I'm assuming this was turned down for TIGER funding, I bet the BNSF easement work would remain the same. There's currently a 12-trip easement. This looks like it's used by all the scheduled...

Park and Portland Avenues
I know there have been plans floating around to reduce the road from three lanes to two and put a cycletrack on the right hand side protected by parking. Here's another idea I had... How about half-multiway-boulevards? :) From the right hand side of the ROW going left, there would easily be enough s...

Re: Adagio at Hoigaard Village - St. Louis Park
Not sure if it's feasible now, but it would be ideal to have TC&W and SWLRT grade separate into a cut underneath Wooddale. 36th could even be extended west on a bridge over TC&W and SWLRT to match the Lake Street/South TH-7 Frontage Road.

Re: Smaller Scale High Density Housing.
Agreed, it's similar to the townhomes that wrap the north side of the parking ramp across from Midtown Market. I like it a lot!
