Re: City of Minneapolis Office Building - 501 4th Ave S - 11 stories / 171'

Can't speak to every direction, but the connection through Government Center is certainly not open, as the entire building is on lockdown during the Chauvin trial.

Re: Old Thrivent HQ - Sora Apartments & Parking Ramp

I'm confused by the idea that offices of the future will require a lot more space per worker. We know that the "six foot rule" is completely unscientific, COVID-19 can easily spread further than that indoors. So it's either safe to work inside (at whatever distance) because people are vac...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I'm skeptical of this being a new era of WFH in general (I think a lot of folks in apartments or families with two working parents don't have the necessary space), but I don't see how downtown doesn't lose some clout if there's a drop in demand for office space. If you commute to your job five days ...

Re: Old Thrivent HQ - Sora Apartments & Parking Ramp

The former Thrivent building is owned by Hennepin County, not the city. I think any changes to the building are going to be on hold for a while. Many county employees won't be back in the office until at least September, perhaps even later. Once that happens, there will likely be a focus on spending...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022

Its the other way around in my opinion. How many people voted for Walz in 2018 but ended up voting for trump in 2020. Walz won by over 11% in 2018 vs biden who won it by 7%. Still a large margin but one that is not nearly as strong and was very much powered by the metro area. If even some of the su...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I'm quite skeptical of a major downsizing in offices. We've already tried hotdesking as a trend, and pretty much everybody hated it - there were plenty of pre-pandemic thinkpieces about the failure of hotdesking and open offices. At least based on media reports, you were starting to see a reversal i...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

I like this design much better than what currently exists, but I have to agree with DanPatchToget...why the two-way bikeway? I'd much rather have a protected lane on each side, and this forces a "to continue, please wait to cross this intersection and then wait again" where two-way bikeway...

Re: Southside - General Topics

The Lake Street Target is not my usual store, but I needed to grab some stuff and figured that I should check it out. I was really impressed with what they had done to it. I especially like the second entrance closer to the street/light rail station. The inclusion of windows to provide a peek of the...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

I know that Apple might be considered a "luxury" store, but in some ways I think it straddled the line between luxury and actual, useful retail! Sure, you probably aren't going to an Apple store on a fairly regular basis. But I know I found it handy for the times I had an issue with my Mac...

Re: Calhoun Square

Honestly, the worst part of Girard along "Seven Points" is the loading dock. It just feels like you're walking along a spot you shouldn't be. The rest of it is underutilized but kind of fine.

Not sure the loading dock can be moved at this point, so I don't know what can be done.

Re: Calhoun Square

Calhoun Square is now "Seven Points."

A multimillion-dollar makeover will include retail, office, and maybe even residential.

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

If two separate routes is really necessary for aBRTing the 10 and 18, couldn't you just add a little length to each route so the 18 extends up to Lowry and the 10 goes down to Lake or 38th or whatever? I have to imagine the bulk of ridership is concentrated between these areas, so you get to double ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I think it's inevitable that some companies realize they can save a ton of money by shrinking their downtown space and having people work from home. But I think there will be plenty of people who want to head back to the office. I know I'm one of them. I actually started a new job during the pandemi...

The North Loop has been looking for a pharmacy. My bet is it's something with a pharmacy, do the urban format targets and cubs have room for that? Otherwise my bet is on Walgreens or cvs
The small Targets all have CVS pharmacies in them, so this is definitely a possibility.

Re: Duffey 2.0 - 3rd St N

If I were a North Loop resident, I'd likely have my fingers crossed for a small-format Target. But Aldi would be a slam dunk for getting cheaper groceries into the neighborhood. Right now, the only true grocer is Whole Foods, and if you're at, say, Washington and 8th or 9th, it's a bit of a hike.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Given that social distancing and shelter in place orders could be in effect for many months, now is the time where you support the businesses that you want to still be around when we get out of this mess. If this lasts a month or more, we probably lose a decent chunk of small restaurants, breweries,...

Re: Work from home and road congestion

Yeah, count me in as someone who likes having an office to go to. I've been working from home for the last week, and it has been really hard. Socially isolating, easy to get distracted, harder to collaborate, etc. I also don't have the space to have the setup I have at work, so it's just less comfor...
