Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (~28 stories / 280 units)
Yes really, look at the buildings, I am not talking about the street level. And actually, now that I look again, I see beautiful landscaping and townhome type entries at the street level...so not sure what the problem is there? Also, I don't see any full half block parking podiums in that immediate ...

LPM is decent, but has giant exposed mechanicals and catwalks on the top, which ruins the whole thing for me...If only they had shielded with another level of facade. LPM is by far the best newer building though...I think Nordhaus is turning out OK.

And as for vancouver...I kind of feel like every residential tower in this area is better than any of ours:

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (~28 stories / 280 units)
I had thought just like that Avian...but I was just in Austin, TX for the first time in a long time. They have a ton of new 25-35 floor buildings that make almost every new one here look like a communist era apartment block. I am starting to think for some reason we just get bad/cheap finishes with ...

This is already turning out to have a little less glass and a little more pre-cast than the renderings on the side of the building towards Nic....Also the balcony railings are iron, and not glass as shown in the renderings.

At quick glance...you really can't tell that the water is only 1/4 inch deep...it just looks like a pool of water. Which is why I am okay with it.

Re: Peavey Plaza
PS, if anyone wants to see what the 1/4 inch deep pool would look like...as shown in their example, check out the reflecting pool at Lakewood cemetery. A beautiful building to check out if you haven't.

Re: Peavey Plaza
If we are going to have a 1/4 inch deep reflecting pool basically...which I am fine with...I like the idea of the bubblers. They will attract people to the space, and they don't change the appearance at all when not on.

I believe I've read before that trees can't be put on much of that stretch of 5th because of underground utilities.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Oh a lot of those were looking pretty sad the past few years.... I just hope all these large trees they are planting do alright. I know they have paid more attention to planting conditions, but a couple of the chosen species are not ideal. PS, it looks like most of the trees and plants are in on the...

Yeah, I am afraid it will be...not good. But if it isn't, I wonder if the contractor or designer will have any liability...
All hypothetical..maybe it will be just fine.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
So as I was walking on Nicollet, I was thinking...I hope this concrete doesn't turn out to be a disaster. As it is, the light color already shows stains/gum super easy...but what about deterioration? I am sure they have thought of this, but what is to stop the etched parts from being the point at wh...

Every time I go by this I think how much better it already is looking than Nic on Fifth. That podium is just so awful. This one will actually have glass sections, and the pre cast looks much higher quality (even if it isn't). I mean I guess Nic on Fifth isn't much to beat, but I think this one will ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I heard from a store owner downtown that Mc Cormick and Schmick's is closing...don't think I've seen anything confirming yet, so put that down as a rumor for now. If so...they aren't amazing or anything, but unless something else is lined up pretty quick it is yet another depressing empty spot. They...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Anyone heard anything about the gateway fountain? I know it was off for a couple years in the early 2000s because of bad pipes. They seem to be working in the area now and it hasn't been turned on. Heard anything of a renovation or closure? Google didn't tell me.
