Re: Vikings Stadium
nasa, relax, most of us citizens of Minneapolis didn't actually want a stadium (well, at least one we have to help pay for). That's the whole reason for the legal charade to avoid the referendum.

Re: 35W Bus Rapid Transit Corridor
It seems strange they cut that scope, the 35th/36th/38th/42nd bridges are still original and will likely need replacement in the next 10-15 years. Additionally without the new bridges it might create some awkward lane squish underneath the old bridges.

Re: 35W Bus Rapid Transit Corridor
I know that has long been in the plan, but somehow I feel like MnDOT has been aggressively cutting project scope in recent years. Yet the weaving between 35th and 31st creates a significant amount of the congestion so hopefully it could be moved to 38th. Long ago I had thought about how some caps co...

Re: U of M Transitway
In the interim (a.k.a. in the next 20 years instead of 50 years) maybe it would work well to route a single streetcar line on Hennepin-Downtown-University Ave-Stadium Village-St. Paul Campus. But build the ROW from Stadium Village to St. Paul Campus either to LRT spec or easily upgradable.

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
What's the point of new public art with the restoration of an old building? The art IS the historic stuff... restore as much as possible (the old clocks, ironwork, etc) and call it good.

Re: Penn and American
So, Southtown... did the Herbergers/Toys R Us used to be a Sears before MOA? The big pier of what looks to be former auto bays seems to give it away. Also the high voltage lines actually go over the strip mall portion between Bed Bath and Beyond and Herbergers. Can anyone think of another example wh...

Re: Penn and American
I know it seems like a broken record, but I think a multi-way boulevard setup would be ideal for many of these Bloomington 6-lane stroads along the strip and especially by MOA and Southtown. Of course the time to build this would have been when they invested in upgrading so many of these roads from ...

MN Highway 100
Hwy 100 through St. Louis Park is expected to be upgraded to modern freeway standards starting in a couple years... http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy100slp/pdfs/concepts.pdf I'm surprised they don't extend the aux lanes to the 394 exit/entrance, so that there's four through lanes from 39...

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News
Land O'Lakes was on there in 1990. Also it's fascinating to see the time capsule that is the 1990 Fortune 500. It seems like half of the list was industrial/manufacturing, and many in industries which are antiquated now. I'm trying to figure out which companies were in MN in 1990 but are now not on ...

Re: Downtown-to-Downtown Rail Capacity Study
Here's to hoping they decide to someday go for a new dual-level tunnel under 6th street, so that underneath LRT we could have a heavy rail connection between NP#9 and Dinkytown trench all the way to the Interchange.... http://goo.gl/maps/ztZcB We can dream, right?

I thought it was rather mean spirited, too. Unless you need to ask for clarification, what's the value in pointing out someone else's errors? I've found that most of the time people are aware of their mistakes, and we'd all do better to grant some interpersonal grace rather than rubbing it in even m...

^meaning the "marginal subsidy" would, in effect, be $0 to the point where additional staff or cars or trains needs to be increased.

Re: Northstar
The other thing is, the marginal cost of new riders is likely approaching $0 at least to the point the current trains are full. So for each new passenger they can attract at, say, $4 then they're actually going to be earning an additional $4.

Interstate 694
I'm titling this thread I-694 since MnDOT is grouping together all the projects from Rice Street to 35W. I think most of us are familiar with some of these projects. The two bridges for old Hwy 10 over 35W are being replaced. Also planned are bridges and partial interchange at Hwy 10 (the cutoff bet...

Re: Parking Lot at 4th St and Wacouta
Indeed, St. Paul is now the suburb with the hottest growth. My hunch is it won't be for sale for long. It is an ideal location for residential development. The LRT will be a wonderful asset to downtown St Paul and is going to attract many more people to live there.

While I like the idea of more density around the Franklin Ave station, I hope this development doesn't encroach upon future opportunity to change the layout of the neighborhood to reconnect the grid and make Hiawatha less of a freeway north of 26th. Those highway bridges at Cedar and Franklin look l...

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
Agreed. I hope the new stadium doesn't set back the organic neighborhood growth we've seen. If anything, I think they should design the stadium so it doesn't have much of an impact beyond its footprint... These game-day plazas, tailgating lots, etc are a blight 98% of the time when there's not a foo...
