Re: Westminster Church
Never a huge fan of 1221. It may be sensitive to the church, but I don't think the building or plaza interacted well with Nicollet. Perhaps if the ground floor had some type of cafe w/ outdoor seating. The area is always so dead. Excited about Dayton being involved. However, I wish we'd stop tearing...

Re: Developing Nicollet Avenue/Stevens Square
Always thought the area could use a nicer full service grocery store. I had hoped that back in the day Kowalski's would have invested in the area, but perhaps a bit too expensive/upscale? Trader Jones would seem to fit the demographics of the area - younger 20 somethings, college students, immigrant...

From Downtown Journal: World of Beer coming to Mpls. http://journalmpls.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/world-of-beer-coming-to-minneapolis/ I am not a huge beer drinker myself, but think it will be a great addition to the Warehouse District. I think it could be a perfect fit for one of the larger first fl...

Re: Loring Greenway
Definitely agree, and I believe that in one of the planning sessions, it was recommended to create a series of "greenways" to unite the downtown neighborhoods - North Loop, CBD, Mill District, DTE. No definitive plans / date to begin. Just another study's recommendation to the city. I am r...

Re: North Loop Park
Hooray! About time. Expect the new park will be very kid/family friendly. Perhaps a gazebo for free outdoor concerts? Exciting time for Minneapolis in terms of new/renovated public spaces - new library north of library, renovated peavey plaza, and hopefully greenspace/a plaza outside the new Viking ...

Very urban and exactly something the North Loop needs. I've seen some really great ideas posted on this site. I wonder if someone should submit them to the city...

Re: Peavey Plaza reconstruction project
Have to say I love Gold Medal Park and Target Plaza though, both by Oslund. But yes, I agree with others. I'd like the plaza renovated/updated, but keep the fountains.

Re: AtWater Building
Great news for Duluth! I remember reading back in the day it was believed Duluth would be larger than Chicago.
I actually like the design and am glad retail is going to be included. Love the idea of rooftop deck. Does the new Sheraton have any rooftop bar/restaurant overlooking Lake Superior?

Re: Vikings Stadium
Question - with a new DTE light rail station eminent - what is going to happen to the arches at the current station? Considering how much money was spent to build them, not to mention how cool they are as a piece of art, I'd hate to see them simply torn down. Hopefully they are incorporated into the...

Re: Handicraft Building Apartments
Love the idea of turning the Handicraft Building into a small MN historical site or MIA satellite site!! You should seriously contact someone about this. Downtown could use a prominent art gallery - again a cultural/unique draw for downtown!!!

Nicollet Ave / Eat Street - Whittier, Stevens, Loring Park
Mod note: Use this thread to discuss Nicollet Avenue (and surroundings) between Grant Street and Lake Street, encompassing Loring Park, Stevens Square, and Whittier neighborhoods. Since there is a thread to discuss what it will take to develop DTE, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in di...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
The park is still in the planning stages, but it's going to happen. City leaders and business execs are really pushing for a "central park" downtown, as well as redoing Nicollet Mall.

Re: Handicraft Building Apartments
I don't believe this includes the portion of the block to be redeveloped w/ the design by Dayton. Personally - I think it's great that so many older buildings downtown are being rehabbed for reuse (old Shinder's on Hennepin, etc.). Personally - I've liked Village Green's buildings. Perhaps not alway...

Thanks for posting the pics! Definitely looks better than before. Still - I'll miss having retail on this block. Also - hopefully Target doesn't intend to keep the milky white over the street level windows.

Is no one else upset about losing another older building? I'd rather have the hotel built on a surface parking lot.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
I most agree a mix of towers and low-rise residential/townhomes is what's going to work and what the city / neighborhood''s plans call for.
I'd like to see more townhomes or better yet rowhouses/brownstones that are set back from the sidewalks giving opportunities for small yards/gardens.

Re: Pedro Park
Wonderful. I know that the land/money for this project came from a private investor - but I praise St. Paul in general for its ability to get projects done while its seems to take Mpls. forever to decide on anything. Look at the Wacouta park as well (again, not sure but that park may also have been ...
