Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
Having recently moved back from Chicago I for one can tell you only a handful of new residential buildings there are all that cutting edge or unique, especially in the surrounding neighborhoods. Many are the same cookie-cutter designs being used over and over again. Aqua is an exception.

Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
It looks ugly and depressing. Even worse than the original and that's hard to do. It could be worse by being black which is oppressive. I would have to disagree that it's not worse than the original. It definitely does need a splash of something though. Hopefully the retail/dining establishments wi...

Re: Mayo Clinic Square (formerly Block E)
Nice. I just wish they would divide up some of those available spaces but I know they are aiming for office tenants. But even the dining/retail spaces seem pretty large.
So - are they not going to replace the skyway to Target Center?

Re: Downtown Retail News
The Gap and Banana Republic both need to open as stand-alone stores along Nicollet. Add an H&M, a Nike Flagship store and an Apple Store and presto-wammo, we'll have a real retail corridor.
Me like! Come on - there have to be some retail stores willing to take a chance on moving back downtown!

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
Will also have to save my judgment until the final design is released. Not too excited about the design so far, especially at what I can make out of the design for street-level.

Re: Downtown Retail News
Someone really has to get on mgt. for IDS as well - both Banana and The Gap need to do better window dressing facing Nicollet. Seems half of the windows are now opaque obviously being used for storage.

Re: Downtown Retail News
I see interior renovations are underway at RBC Plaza (former Gaviidae). Anyone have any insights into what the interior will look like? Also - I hear that Presence (the gift store) is relocating to the first floor. Keeping my fingers crossed more retail starts moving back into downtown. I just found...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Be interesting to see how feasible it is to keep the fire pits. I am still upset the fireplaces in the downtown library never have been turned on.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Not really keen on the need to rename the Mall either. I do like the theater in the round seating and other seating areas and new bus shelters. For the new design to really work - all depends on keeping the Mall spaces active and adjoining building owners to improve/activate storefronts facing Nicol...

Re: Target Center Renovation
I think it looks really cool and will be a very nice complement to Target Field and Mayo Clinic Square. But it's pretty clear I'm in the minority on this site... I like the increased glass, the new texture of the metal panels, and the darker look. I think it's a HUGE improvement over the current co...

I mean still wish it was located downtown Mpls. Believe it used to be located in the Warehouse District. The Children's Museum still is located downtown, just in a different downtown.I wish the Children's Museum was still located downtown.

Re: Eat Street
This will be a great addition to this neighborhood. Eat Street appears to be evolving into a version of what the retail districts of Lynn-Lake and Uptown used to be "in the old days". Agree - which is nice for the neighborhood. Now I am just waiting for the reconstruction of the Nicollet ...

Re: Dock Street Flats - (333 Washington Avenue North)
Really love this development. Very urban. Love how the retail spaces overlook Washington Avenue and the outdoor seating area for Dunn Brothers. My only question is I thought they were going to install glass along the overhang?

Great news. More businesses headquartered downtown - more downtown works, redevelopment of surface parking lots in Elliot Park/DTE.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Urban Planning
I think Elliot Park has a lot of potential. I walked around the area last week and was pleasantly surprised at the number of older buildings clustered together. The pedestrian realm of course needs some improvements - better sidewalks, lighting, etc. and some of the buildings need some tender loving...

Re: Downtown Retail News
Now that I am back in the cities I've been spending a lot of time walking around and re-exploring the city. Anyone notice a women's boutique called Charmed opened in the Bridgewater? Kinda a weird mix of retail/services in that development.

Re: Downtown Retail News
Wasn't there talk of a major retailer currently not in the Twin Cities looking at a location downtown? Any more information come from this discussion? I hope so! Minneapolis really seems to come alive in the evenings with people dining out and going to bars, concerts, etc. Downtown needs to create ...

Here's the plan for now: http://blogs.mprnews.org/cities/2014/05/artist-to-transform-gravel-pit-into-newest-st-paul-park/ More permanent plans need more funding. Nice but I am always confused as to why spend money on a temporary "fix" rather than keep that money towards the overall cost o...
