Re: New Vikings LRT Station
I did get pretty confused at the suggestion that the area would become a significant bus terminal. The only service that really terminates at the Metrodome is Megabus's route to Chicago via Madison/Milwaukee. There are some other local bus routes which pass within a few blocks of the Dome which I su...

Re: 1101 University Ave. SE (University Lutheran Chapel site
Do you really think it is that high at the U? I'm having a tough time believing that 50% of students at the U have cars. Maybe I'm more out of touch with Minnesota than I thought, but I would have guessed 20 or 25%. Almost no freshmen have cars. It increases each year...by senior year, I'd imagine ...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
Yeah, I thought I was reading a repeat of an old article with that one, since I know it's happened at least once before. I seem to recall copper thefts happening last year, but it might have just been earlier this spring. I'm pretty concerned about the copper roofing material which appears to be a c...

East Metro Rail Capacity Study
I was surprised to see a notice for a new open house for the East Metro Rail Capacity Study pop up for Thursday next week. I haven't heard of any activity on that for about two years, so it's good to see that they're at least talking about it again. Hopefully they'll actually publish something onlin...

Lowry Avenue Bridge
In their article about the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, F&C says that the Lowry Avenue Bridge won't be open this summer. Completion has apparently slipped to sometime between September and December.

HarMar Mall - Roseville
There has been a small amount of remodeling going on at HarMar Mall recently. As far as I can tell, just some refurbishment of the entranceways next to the Famous Footwear and the former Buffalo Wild Wings. BW3 has apparently moved over by Rosedale, though I don't know exactly where. Kyoto Sushi is ...

You also have to trim off the extra "&related=g-u-u" bit... We should see if the phpBB plugin or whatever can be fixed to automatically ignore that part of the URL.

Re: Hiawatha Line (Blue Line)
It's just endemic of the penny-pinching that has driven a dumbing-down of pedestrian space for the past several decades. I feel that the brick makes the space much friendlier since there are often patterns to draw the eye and there's a tactile sense to them underfoot. Plus, my gut tells me they help...

Re: Hiawatha Line (Blue Line)
That's a disappointment. I've definitely noticed some Hiawatha platforms have some very bleached-looking bricks, though I guess I hadn't seen an inordinately high level of damage. I had noticed that the new Green Line platforms don't seem to have any pavers, though it's hard to tell whether they'll ...

Got this in an e-mail newsletter from the Red Rock folks a week and a half ago: Public Input Sought on the Design for the Newport Transit Station Washington County Regional Railroad Authority, in partnership with the City of Newport, is designing a transit station that will be a launching point for ...

Re: New Vikings LRT Station
The thought is creeping into my head that this station will need some changes when the Southwest LRT gets built -- widening the westbound platform a bit, at least. Fortunately, there's a decent amount of room off the end of the platform for crowds to get from one side to the other, since this statio...

Re: Northern Lights Express
For anyone interested in a chance to see the line up toward Duluth as it currently exists, the Friends of the 261 group has begun taking reservations for their annual fall colors trip to Boylston Jct. (a bit south of Superior) and back on October 13th this fall. They divide the train up into coach, ...

Re: 1101 University Ave. SE (University Lutheran Chapel site
It would be nice if they could come back with a plan to include a car-sharing service. I think the guess of 1/2 of students having cars is probably about right, but many of those are only used once a week for the grocery run.

Re: Cedar Avenue BRT (Red Line)
The platform is about 30 inches wide outside the doors -- should be fine for someone to stay outside after they put a bike on in front.
Of course, some BRT systems have bike racks inside the buses...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
Kinda sorta. The Dinkytown bridge has the benefit that land actually runs up close enough to the north and south corners that stuff can actually be built there (not quite on the north side, but close). The other corners over the trench are some of the numerous examples of unused plaza-like spaces in...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
Yeah, restoring an east-west connector or two would be a good thing. Connecting Oak Grove to 17th Street seems like the most logical one, though the most technically challenging since it makes a 4-way intersection right above the middle of the Interstate. Cap the southeast and northwest quadrants en...
