Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Lately most of my rides have seemed like every day there were becoming faster with less stops especially at the secondary intersections. But wow tonight I am heading east and we hit every major one and STOPPED. Not slowed but stopped: Fairview, Snelling, Lexington, Dale, Western, Marion. as well as ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
"exiled_antipodean wrote: Car hits train gets disproportionately more stories than car hits bus or car hits truck even if the car driver was doing the same thing in all circumstances." Yes agreed. Busses don't get the press when they have collisions with autos. But I guess the Achilles hee...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Re: the "accident" with the LRV tonight. Ok, this is the system we have, and we must learn to live with it. There just seems to be so much potential chaos and mayhem just waiting to happen. And when mayhem (or Mary Jo in this case) strikes.... It shuts down the line. How many mary joes are...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Someone on this thread once said that a SPUD-TFS intercity rail connection is about 50 years away. I have to agree. However, if the green line numbers continue to meet and beat expectations, then this connection might become more realistic and could accomplish 3 things: 1) take pressure off the gree...

Re: Transit Crime
I was at Dunn Bros today at westgate station.
I saw a metro transit cop get off a east bound train with someone in handcuffs, and then go to the westbound platform with his detainee. It reminded me of Robert Deniro and Charles Grodin in "Midnight Run".

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I saw something encouraging today as I drove east on university: There was a train a about a block back following me, and as I approached one of those "secondary intersections" (Chatsworth I believe), where there was a car waiting to turn left. The LRT signal started flashing, and I though...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I've noticed that emergency vehicles on university flip all 3 directions to red, with the exception of theirs. Also as fire trucks exit the stations they trigger signals to stop all traffic in both directions. There are 2 fire stations in St. Paul on university at vandalia and St. Albans.

I know I've posted a picture of this before. But this is such a cool bicycle infrastructure project. Kind of like the Sabo bridge on steroids.

Agreed. That's what the short line originally was designed for, right? ( except the Milwaukee Road depot instead if it he interchange)

When I saw the single car I just thought it accidentally got separated from a 3 car and kept making all of it's stops;-)

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I've seen 3 car combos, 2 car combos, and today I even saw a lonely one car LRT headed west with passengers.
Any idea why they split them up like this?

Oops! East is correct. Yes bummer about the gateway bridge being removed last week in the dead of night. Kind of like when the Colts left Indianapolis in the cover of darkness.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
On the east side of 35E there is a fresh new bike trail opening up. Nice blacktop, get it while you can rollerbladers. It's called Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary Trail.

Yes, that's the one... thanks!
It looks like a heavy duty building build for the long haul.

Does anyone know what that old brick building on Delaware is being converted to? Looks like a pretty extensive rehab. It's kitty corner to the back side of WaHu.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Does anyone think that the signaling is getting worse? Trains never seems to make it across 280 without at least stopping once, even on a weekend with scant traffic. Yesterday there was a situation where EVERYBODY was stopped at 280. Trains, cars, peds. I guess it seems that the signals aren't "...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I wonder if it woud be possible to give the LRV full preemptions over the "minor" intersections if you will (the Makubins, the Arundels, the Grottos, etc). No joke, the train I was on last night hit almost every one. It was a 30 minute ride from Westgate to Robert in non rush hour traffic....

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I gotta jump on the bandwagon tonight. I'm a big proponent of transit for the record. But so far, this sucks. I left westgate at 8:26, we have hit EVERY light going eastbound. I have to be to work at 9:00 pm. Going to be close. I thought the evening post rush hour would be a cake walk. Not only ever...
