Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

I'll use three example of strong and vibrant urban areas. The first is more of an honorable mention as a area that is improving over the course of the last few years and with some of the future development that are proposed. But Uptown is an area that has, I'll repeat this 2 more time, has doors, s...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

I've got nothing. I'm just really really tired of this argument.. Everytime they've redone Nicollet it turns into something better. But we have a rough winter that causes things to age poorly. Chava..go look up Nicollet mall and you'll find its significance. Grant, its' modern significance. I'm wel...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

In the grand scheme of city budgets $3.5 isn't a large proportion, but does that matter? Tax dollars are being used for yet another remake, but is there any reason to believe the results will actually be different this time? Designer talking points aside, what can I look forward to as a taxpayer and...

Re: Playing in the Street

It would be awesome if people were allowed to leave obstructions (other than parked cars, which are also obstructions) in the street to #slowthecars.

In Chicago winters, it's called dibs, and no!

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

Neither homeless people or the underground pedestrian tunnels seemed to have stopped State Street in Chicago from coming alive from the sleepy retail place it once was. State St does have a subway running under it, so it has that going for it. But Nicollett has a light rail stop fed by two lines, so...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

Why do we consider dedicated bus lanes when they can maneuver around obstructions, but not for streetcars/trolleys? Not trying to troll, just curious as to why they're beneficial to the one mode, but possibly not the other.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Regarding flags, how would we go about changing them? I love how in Chicago you see the city flag all over. With all the talk about "branding" I feel like now is as good a time as ever to get the flag thing rolling. The minneapolis flag is probably easier to change, though both could use ...

Wasn't sure if this was appropriate for this thread or apartment boom thread. In any case: "Minnesota is one of the least affordable Midwest states for renters, study finds" http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-is-one-of-the-least-affordable-midwest-states-for-renters-study-finds/304281031...

Exactly. Slap that pinkish and orange sign on it, and it's ready to roll.

Looks about right for a new Dunkin Donuts, or a 7-11(they don't have those here, do they?)

Ouch, Chicago. Several people sent that to me as I was driving back from Chicago following the election.

Re: Minneapolis Post Office

To me, the distance from the Nicollet station isn't a deal breaker, especially on a day like today. But if you pull into the station, the location of the post office isn't readily apparent. It's not something you can spot looking northeast(ish) on Nicollect toward 1st st. Looking from Marquette, it'...

Yes I do. I had a 5/5 of success rate for each case submitted. I made sure to submit pictures for each case, as the city indicates this is more helpful for inspections/problem solving.

I completely agree that it is our job to be the eyes and ears.

Re: Car Sharing

I'm getting confused.

Is this thread about car sharing like zipcar, car2go, etc, or "ride sharing," aka taxis by another name services; uber/uberx/lyft? We seem to lumping them all together, and they are not the same.

Re: 729 Washington Av N

While we're at it maybe we can get the parking ramp at 10th & Washington to be open 24/7 rather than only during the day. Kind of sad when streets are jam packed during a Twins game or at one of Jaeger's themed nights, and you have to park blocks away while this huge empty ramp sits there all n...

Re: Rock the Garden

None of these bands are really "my thing." Belle and Sebastian is kind of interesting, although if I go it'd probably be on Sunday. My complaint this year is the same as last year, though. Saturday night should end with a good rock band, not a throwback (and in this case, a throwback that...

Re: Rock the Garden

I wonder if there isn't some unspoken rule forbidding anything slightly edgy.

With the exception of Babes in Toyland, and maybe Courtney Barnett, it seems like none of these bands ever turn their amps past 5, like ever.

It's cool that Sean Kuti is playing.

Yeah, that's the larger space. But if you look at the link MNdible posted there is a second, smaller space, as well.
Indeed. I was too far down the road to get it into the shot. I think you can see a sliver of it(red for rent sign on right). Coffee!
