Re: Block E
I don't know if it's just MN (and also, I assume, Louisiana) or if it also applies to states that merely border the Mississippi, but I know that MN stations can register for W- or K- callsigns regardless of their transmitter location, etc. There have also been examples of TV and radio stations re-fi...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I sort of agree, there's already plenty of parking. But unfortunately it sounds like that ship sailed with the Wilfare legislation, and now we're either stuck with a Wilf ramp north of the new-dome, or something a little more hidden and integrated such as this proposal. In general, I think we need t...

Re: Washington Avenue
I was thinking about this some more... if we were going to reconnect the grid and get rid of the trench, it would be easiest just to jog 4th Street to keep it on the north side of the LRT tracks. http://goo.gl/maps/XzhFy The only casualties might be a small corner of the Valspar building, and the LR...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago
I wasn't necessarily arguing that Winona was deserving of a stop, but merely that it might be a good location for HSR from Roch to cross the river into Wisconsin. There used to be two (or maybe more) rail crossings in the Winona area.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Speaking of skyways, I could actually imagine one more skyway link here... ONCE the Armory is converted to a public marketplace, build a skyway connecting from the parking ramp to the armory, then another from the armory to the public health building. This would connect downtown to the HCMC network,...

Yet free parking is one of the main issues with the Honeywell campus.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I'd love to see a streetcar connection from SW LRT through Hopkins. Maybe it could go up 8th Ave then west on the old RR ROW to Excelsior! Then, at Hopkins, it could run east on SWLRT to Louisiana, where it could cut through that old connection MN&S/MILW connection past Methodist Hospital. Then ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
^hey, two of four sides filled by buildings sure beats most of the other ramps in this neighborhood... Gateway, HCMC, Haaf, Gov. Center.... but agreed, I hope parking is as minimally invasive as possible in new developments.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Parking doesn't bother me, as long as it's not subsidized and as long as it's not done in a way that diminishes the inherent value of adjacent land uses.

Yes, they had well-known former pols and commentators stuffed around a table so tight, they barely had space for all of their laptops. It was awkward.

Re: MSP Airport
There's a long ways for this to go...
First, it's not even certain it will go to SkyTeam (but likely of course)... yet before *A was their preferred alliance.
Second, to have more than an alliance or code share, they need to try and get ATI from the DOJ and probably the Europeans.

Re: Block E
Interesting.... 2000 Elm SE still shows a bunch of wires running across the roof to the SE corner of the property where there's a microwave antenna pointing northeast... maybe there's still a radio studio in there? The building NW of New Brighton Blvd and Broadway has an antenna tower as well, altho...

Re: Block E
Mullen, do you remember where WFTC was before the whole 9/29 network swap and duopoly? They had a short lived newscast (Fox 29 News at 9) for about a year prior to the merger... They built out a newsroom and live studio just to see it dismantled a year later. I think it was in North Mpls or Robbinsd...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Agreed. They could expand the ROW maybe another 30-80 feet on the north side of 5th, but two full block parks would just bee too much. But of course turning a concrete street into a pleasantly wide/green street is doesn't have the same "value-add" as a gameday plaza.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Agreed about the parks. I'd rather see smaller parks that come together to create some sort of linear connection from north to south. But it seems like the Vikings are really driving a lot of this. If we had a full block park for this neighborhood, my first choice would be the Thrivent surface parki...
