Re: Stadium Village
As FISHMANPET outlines most of the current tenants could be accommodated in a new building or have a financial interest in the project proceeding, so I'm not really sure where the effective opposition is going to come from. To be sure, there will be people who claim the building is too tall, or out ...

MSP-KEF can be done without anything beyond ETOPS-60, since unlike east coast to KEF it is more over land.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Maybe by removing park and rides they'll realize that land immediately beside a rail line is a valuable asset that people will pay to build on, turning acres of costs into acres of revenue.

Re: MSP Airport
I have to wonder what sort of plane Delta would have used? To flood the market with seats and drive out FI they'd use a 747. But an A319 or A320 would make it just fine. Not sure what ETOPS or overwater requirements are needed to operate efficiently to Iceland, but that might have been a factor in ...

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)
I have a hard time accepting this is a good deal for users. Yes, the deductible is being reduced but the cost of that deduction seems pretty high. Using the figures in the car2go quarterly report you can estimate that with the expansion to St Paul the fleet is driving about 2 million miles a year. B...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
Minneapolis doesn't ban advertising murals. They make it harder. A mural is still defined as "A work of graphic art painted on a building wall, which contains no commercial advertising or logos, and which does not serve to advertise or promote any business, product, activity, service, interest...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
I'm making the point that it doesn't have to be blank. You can ban advertising murals but there's a cost to that. Here's a somewhat visible blank wall for which some company might gladly pay good money to use as a place to advertise whatever products they want to sell, solving the problem of this be...

How about a big advertising mural if our city didn't have such ridiculous rules about those?!

Also A while back I had dinner with someone from the MAC through work and I asked a few questions about future int'l airlines. Don't hold your breath for Korean anytime soon, which to me is a big bummer. I also asked about SAS or Norwegian since our Scandinavian population is so large and while it ...

The paving will actually involve the removal of a lot of trees, and basically be like the construction of a road through the park.
Strenuously disagree with the notion of paving this or the Minnesota River Bottoms trails.

I know of some teachers and doctors living in there. At least one couple in their 50s who work at the U, and wanted to be able to walk to work, give up the two car lifestyle of the burbs. They said their floor was pretty sedate.

There go my dreams of ever using that rail right-of-way again, but whatever... Developers talked about leaving room on the rail right of way for a bike trail. I believe the railroad wants to sell the right of way from at least Franklin Ave north to this location, and possibly all the way from the C...

Reduce minimum parking requirements in areas near 30 minute all-day transit service.
This would be a big win for the city if approved. Lets get lobbying our council members!

Re: Oaks Station Place
They're going through the process of changing it right now from 50 to 25. But aside from that, there are a lot of sunk costs when you're opening a restaurant (most notably all of the commercial kitchen equipment) that you'd like to spread out over more seats. Sorry, yes, I wasn't clear that the lin...

You know why we don't have 40 seat restaurants. Because the ordinances discourage them.

The previous use had a variance, and they were grandfathered in on the parking. They are using the lot on Franklin/Thornton for parking for now, but ultimately hope to put townhomes there.
Yep, the immediate neighbors have been outraged at the parking issue.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
That is the funny thing about the 414 Xcel building is that it looks terrible to work in with those narrow windows, but it meets the street well. In an era when a lot of buildings didn't meet the street that well, that's something. Compare with some of the buildings on the West Bank of the U at the ...
