Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

Not to mention that the Park Board has a "no net loss of parkland" policy, which means that selling park land for redevelopment is virtually impossible.

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

Is this the route that goes through William O'Brien? Would tie in well to the plans to extend Gateway from O'Brien to Scandia.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Are we just going to reprise the discussion from a couple months ago about Houston? Is this ideal? No. Is it workable? Yes. "Deeply awful" overstates the problem. Now, that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a cost/benefit discussion about a cut and cover tunnel. I've become convinced in the...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Still haven't seen a layout for putting dedicated guideway LRT on an 80' street that wouldn't be deeply awful for pedestrians, transit, or both.

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit

I wonder if this is Metro Transit tipping their hand a bit on the ABRT route selection process. It's hard for me to imagine them doing this if they're planning to replace Route 3 with Como-Maryland BRT in a few years.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

But you need Montreal for the likely bus transfer--I'm not sure buses could even make that turn from Montreal to southbound 7th to get to a Homer station. The 83 is also a pretty likely candidate to get extended down there. Worth pointing out too that there are two intersections of Maynard/7th, and ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

I've written a lot about how bad and dumb the "modern streetcar" mode choice is on this project, but we should take a moment to also note that there is absolutely no reason for stations at both Maynard and Davern, and both Montreal and Homer. Sort of emblematic of the weird priorities of ...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022

How many of those outstate voters who hate Walz voted for Biden? You would need a whole lot of Biden voters to vote GOP in 2022 to unseat Walz, and that just doesn't feel like a very likely formula.

Re: 17 North Washington - CA - 27 stories - ~300'(?)

Without arguing one way or another re: this building, I really want to push back on the idea that the Gateway District doesn't deserve preservation because the buildings don't suit contemporary tastes. That is exactly the justification people used 60 years ago to demolish the original Gateway Distri...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Ramsey County's Rice Street Visioning Study (redesigning Rice from Pennsylvania Ave to Wheelock Pkwy) continues to move forward. The study team has posted design concepts that could be applied to Rice, all of which assume that the current four lane configuration is no longer viable. Provide feedback...

Especially since Ward 10 is definitely one of the city's most overpopulated wards, and whoever gets elected in 2021 will be running in a very different district in 2023.

It would be like I-335, which was planned to connect 35 and 94 through Northeast. I doubt many people even know about that project, or ever think "I wish there was a freeway through Northeast so I could drive to Rosedale from Golden Valley a few minutes faster. I certainly don't actually wish ...

"Small but loud and well-connected group of opponents" is the definition of handwaving away the opposition. You know who has a good read on the size of the opposition? The elected officials making these compromises.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

With the dedicated sales tax funding, and with Ramsey County able to take the lead without political interference from others, I'd hope that they'd be optimistically thinking they could start construction in four years or so, putting an opening date more in the 2029-2030 range. Bear in mind that th...
