Re: Downtown Crime
Bars and sidewalks should close at 9 pm. You all have heard the saying, "nothing good happens after 9 pm".

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
Quick note: Pretty sure the Supreme Court outlawed restrictive covenants in the late 40s, or at least the ones targeting minorities. Rest of your point stands though. You are correct I should have been more clear. The Supreme Court (Shelley v. Krarmer) ruling of 1948 did outlaw covenants. Red linin...

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
What was really crazy about the FHA was that any neighborhood that was in any way integrated was immediately red lined (given a D grade). D grades were also given to neighborhoods dense, mixed or aging. This policy lasted until 1966! Only a completely white neighborhood or a completely black neighbo...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System
I think if we look at streetcars vs. buses, and compare their ability to transport people its pretty close to a wash. If we look at the ability to attract development then we can see that streetcars are clearly better. Turning to streetcars to improve transit in Uptown is silly. If we can dedicate s...

Built in January 1900.If I had to guess, I would say that house is from the 1890s.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Since 2003, the minimum capacity for a Final Four venue is 40,000. So no arenas. The idea has come up. 20,000 good seats is better than 10,000 good seats and 40,000 marginal seats. Plus, surprisingly wind or air movement plays a factor in large stadiums. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/s...

i hate this project and everything it entails. mark dayton and al franken are morons for supporting this. short term jobs gain with no vision for how this will effect minnesota in the long term. not wisonsin, minnesota. it will ensure the twin cities remains one of the nation's sprawl leaders. Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
Perhaps, although I have never understood this. Why must 80,000 people park within walking distance of the stadium? Why can't there be remote parking lots with free shuttle buses (as is practiced at innumerable locations, for instance at Disneyland). Basing development decisions around such trivial...

Re: Nicollet Mall
They have also found a way to cheaply heat the sidewalks to avoid the snow and ice problems that apparently plague us. This would be a good innovation to implement on Nicollet (especially given how all the news articles describing the need for renovation mention the havoc wreaked by the freezing/un...

Re: Vikings Stadium
MLS plays a summer schedule, generally one game per week, so over-saturated might be a bit of a stretch. Personally, in 10 years I think we'd be better off with an MLS team than an NBA team. MLS is a progressive, growing league that caters to young, urban fans. The NBA is a league where rich people...

Re: Vikings Stadium
More news, this time regarding soccer. The Vikings are ensuring that the stadium will accommodate professional/international soccer. And once the stadium development process advances a bit, they promise to explore investment in an MLS team. They've indicated this in the past, but it's nice to hear ...

I started using Bing. It works okay.
Sidebar: While the iOS 6 upgrade has probably decreased my quality of life by like twenty percent by taking transit out of maps, the panoramic function on the camera is really just great.

Total space shuttle budget was $192 billion. Not sure where you got your numbers. One billion? At all that, it'd end up costing more than the space shuttle

Re: 700 Central Ave. NE (former Archive condos)
There are lots of 1980s style houses all over NE. An entire neighborhood west of Marshall and south of 8th Ave. Even on Lowry Ave. there are homes obviously built in the 1980 with big garages out front. Much more rare in South Minneapolis.
