Re: Future of the forum

While we're doing this, whatever happened to FISHMANPET?
It's anyone's guess as to why people start and stop posting here, but a lot of people are also on MN local politics Twitter. He's definitely still alive.

Re: Minnesota Redistricting 2022

Gerrymandering is bad. Even if it serves the people you like. Just to note, I'd say at least half of that change is due to population growth in urban areas and decline of rural areas, not where the lines are drawn. So we should still see DFL gains from whatever the courts draw. We very narrowly mis...

Minnesota Redistricting 2022

It really is a shame we weren't able to get a DFL Trifecta. The state legislative redistricting maps that the DFL (Rep. Mary Murphy) submitted would add something like 4 more DFL state senate districts to the current 27 in the metro, and 2 DFL state senate districts in Rochester. There's probably mo...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago

I feel like more than 2 future roundtrips should be agreed to for such a big merger approval (even if they all aren't shovel-ready yet). We should get all of the Hiawatha frequencies extended to Saint Paul (and at some point Minneapolis/Saint Cloud).

Re: Saint Paul enacts rent control

I was thinking about this a couple days ago, but I have a prediction: the Rent stabilization Ordinance won't actually impact profitability or Operations in a direct way. But because the people who make decisions believe it will, they will act accordingly, causing the negative effects to happen despi...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

Wasn't the spark that turned the protests into riots when "umbrella man" smashed the windows at AutoZone? "Umbrella man" was the spark that let loose a lot of destruction, but the spark could have been any act similar to that. The cause (the gasoline the spark ignited) was a bui...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

The only way this gets fixed might be intervention from a DFL-controlled state legislature or a recession. We're still a while away from either tho. :|

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

According to Google maps, it would take 1 hour and 18 minutes to drive from Big lake to downtown, starting and stopping at all of the currenr Northstar stations. I would imagine that's as fast as a bus could make the trip. That doesn't include any traffic and it doesn't include any dwell time at eac...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

It would be great if we could just get some DMUs with lower capacity but also lower operating costs and run them more frequently.

Some legislator should just stick some MNDOT money for a third track in a bonding bill to get it over with.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

There was just a car crash at the new Lake St Station, looks like the building is on fire due to it. Car crashes are so normalized that my first internal reaction was "you gotta be kidding me, the building is on fire?! I hope my new bus station is OK  " before "oh I hope no one ...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

I will personally beg MNDOT to allow Highway 5 to go down to two lanes so Riverview can have dedicated ROW across the river.
Like someone mentioned upthread, we need to make like a dedicated neighborhood group/lobbying group for this. Highway 5 needs to go down to 2 lanes. :x

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

Speaking of Ramsey County transitway projects, the Gold Line is 100% engineered and ready to begin construction next spring in anticipation of a 2025 opening. Some notes from the latest CMC meeting: The FTA is currently doing risk assessment for the project, expected to be completed this month. The...

Its been mentioned a couple times that Riverview will share tracks with the green and blue lines. "two options are being considered for relocation of the light rail station at MOA, both are next to 82nd Street & 24th Avenue, one is an at-grade station (Option 1) and one is an elevated stati...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics

None of these transit lines have really happened without 2 things: 1) a decent amount of feasibility 2) strong and persistent support from local governments Things like the red rock BRT and Arden Hills aBRT fell off the radar because they aren't feasible (#1). The midtown Greenway LRT/Streetcar and ...

Even better, put the MEGA-HERC in Lake Elmo so Wisconsin is downwind from it 😁
