Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
My personal idea is to get rid of the 2, and extend the 67 from Hiawatha/Franklin over to 21st St Station at 10 min frequencies. Service on other streets would be replaced by higher frequencies on the 22 (Cedar), 7 (Riverside), 3 (U of M/Dinkytown), 6 (Univ/4th), and perhaps a new route to better co...

Re: Chicago
I would like to see the Purple Line become full time service, once the express stations are opened at Wilson and Loyola. I think in the long term the Red Line or the Purple Line could branch off at Belmont and operate in a new subway that serves areas closer to the lakefront. The other service would...

Re: Chicago
The biggest problem against interlining is that the ridership doesn't match between branches, which also means that the frequency and train lengths aren't compatible. Pink Line has 15,500 riders/day, Green West: 26,000, Green South: 12,500, Brown Line: 56,000, Orange Line: 26,500, with another 65,00...

Re: Cedar Avenue BRT (Red Line)
I doubt that there's 1,958 buses stopping at Cedar Grove per day. There's maybe 200 trips on the Red Line, 100 trips on the 444, 40 trips on the 445, 40 trips on the 440, 30 trips on the 438, 10 trips on the 437, 5 trips on the 491/492, 20 trips on the 475, and just a handful on the 477. I do agree ...

Chicago, PATH, and PATCO also manage 24 hr service with 2 tracks. LIRR also provides 24h service.

Well for the record, I believe that most everyone hear is referring to converting a parking lane into a peak hour bus lane, not taking one of the traffic lanes for a bus lane.

Re: Hennepin Avenue
Your argument that a 35 minute bus ride is the same by car is pretty much untrue. I'm usually able to drive from the north end of Downtown to Uptown in appx. 20-25 minutes routinely. Additionally, it is a failure of the bus system to only be able to travel 3 miles in 35 minutes. That's basically jog...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
Once again, I think this project shows how biased MT is toward the burbs: they get all these express routes, but why no express routes that go from one end of Mpls to the other? They're only in the planning stages for a BRT line in St Paul on Snelling, but tons of express routes already run in and ...

Re: Hennepin Avenue
We definitely need some sort of transit improvement on Hennepin. A typical bus ride on the 6 at the height of rush hour from the north end of downtown to Uptown Transit Center takes about 30-35 min. Then you have all the riders who are continuing on to Edina, SLP, Hopkins, Minnetonka, etc. Another i...

Re: Hennepin Avenue
The problem is that Hennepin is the main route between two major centers, Uptown and Downtown. Logically, with more office and residential development in both, traffic is going to increase. There really isn't much that can be done to mitigate traffic problems. Because Hennepin is a diagonal and does...

Re: Interstate 94
Access Minneapolis wanted to move the 9 bus off of 9th and onto 7th. Recently the 14 was moved over to 4th from 7th, which is useful for the North Loop riders, but inconvenient for everyone else. I don't think we will have any more routes on 7th until bus lanes are striped.

Anyone know the story behind the ramp at 517 Marquette? The facade is really cool (Egyptian Hieroglyphs and whatnot), but the rest of the building in unfortunately a parking ramp, and I'm wondering how that came to be.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
IIRC, in Japan the HSR trainsets have seats that can be swiveled into the other direction at the terminal. But, HSR to Minneapolis on existing tracks is a no-brainer as Minneapolis is the economic powerhouse of the Upper Midwest.

Re: Arterial Transit Corridor Study ("rapid bus")
Nicollet and Central should definitely be in the next group of routes to become arterial BRT. They are pretty slow and have high ridership, and streetcar is complementary instead of competitive. Definitely more important than the other corridors, with perhaps the exception of Hennepin.

New apartments will no longer be built when the vacancy rate is high enough to reduce rents. From a quick google search, it looks like that is appx. 7% for rentals.
