Re: Bapster2006's reprocessed 1980's photos
As far as I can determine, I took this photo in the hallway through the JC Penny / Syndicate building (now demolished). I don't think this section was in the Soo Line area, but I could be wrong of course. The sign indicates the Thorpe Building (demolished for a parking ramp), the F&M Savings Ba...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
Can't wait to see the renderings on this one. Twenty floors will be a nice height for this area and will take away another surface lot. It would be nice to see that parcel next to the HCMC ramp get filled in as well.

Very nice! This will be a better use of this space along the LRT and hopefully be a catalyst for some renovation at Renaisance Square, next door. It would be nice if that could be fully restored.

I agree 100% with you on this. Especially the touch screen variety. Thankfully we don't use those in Minneapolis.Me too.^ Agree 100%. Electronic voting scares me. It should scare every computing professional.

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
The benefit is making elections more competitive, and it's been quite successful at that. IMO the big story of this election is that lots of voters broadly agreed with Hodges ideologically but didn't think she was effective in her role, and that type of candidate would struggle to break through aga...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
I even know someone who did Frey/Hodges/Hoch! I don't get the Hoch in this grouping. Well, I do, but personally I think it says something about how little people actually understand issues in city elections. They've heard of Hoch ($$$) and he seems like a good guy, so okay. They're actually not a l...

New tallest, perhaps?? I sure hope so, Capella has been tallest long enough. No, I dont count that extra structure that IDS added to house their window washing equipment years after it was built.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks
The post office would make a very nice indoor market along the lines of Cleveland's West Side Market. The West Side Market is fun. The Post Office building could be incorporated into somthing really big. Keep the facade as is and build something up from within that complements the existing structur...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
As the wraps come off of this project, I find myself surprised that I actually like the way it has turned out. I don't love it, not a huge fan of the concrete, but it seems brighter and the trees look great. The old mall design was kind of tired with all of the broker pavers. Always seemed kind of d...

Naf Naf Grill is now open. All the glass really opens it up and it's nice and bright. Hopefully that will attract some new tennants to fill the Dunn Brothers and Subway spaces that are still empty. Jury is still out on the remodeled atrium, the new staircase takes up a lot of space.

Protect all the contributing structures in a district, as long as it's defined coherently (i.e., not single family homes). I'm curious about this. We have several "coherently" defined historic districts of single-family homes. You just don't think that's valid? Why not? I strongly disagre...

Re: 10th & Marquette Handicraft Building Development
It would be really nice if this could be filled with tenants again and left as is. Our city has lost too many old structures to development over the years and we can't afford to lose more of our architectural history. Many of the buildings going up downtown seem to be covered in cheap looking materi...

It's nice to see some new develpment coming to the intersection of Penn and Plymouth near where I live in the Homewood neighborhood. Currently we are getting a new headquartrs for Thor construction, and what I believe to be, a new building to replace the funeral home across the street. They wll be n...

First time poster here. I've been following this site for a long time and I love all of the things I learn from it. Minneapolis wanted something "iconic" on this site, but we still have a big empty space in a prime downtown location. What I would love to see here is somnething truly bold, ...
