Re: Penn and American
http://www.pennandamerican.com/Penn&AmericanSitePlan.pdf I think the design has to much parking. The street parking looks nice but Sonic & Wendy's really don't need additional parking nor does the strip mall across the street! Seems like a waste of space although for a suburb design rather ...

Re: Velo apartments
Wedgeguy has it right. The limit isn't structural, it's fire related. Stick buildings are much more likely to have catastrophic fires than concrete or steel ones, and are thus limited in heights so that ladder trucks can reach the top floors. Edit: Does anyone know which corner this is on, or the a...

Re: Lake & Nicollet
I think removing cars from Eat Street would make it a destination, not something people would avoid. There is enough density and enough people that prefer to get around by means other than a car in Minneapolis to make this work. And for those that insist on driving, there are plenty of sidestreets ...

Re: Lake & Nicollet
I also would prefer that the reconnected block be a transit mall rather than open to all cars - that would certainly make for a better retail environment. But I don't think that will happen either. I love this idea. My favorite thing about Nicollet Ave. north of K-Mart right now is how pedestrian f...

Re: Lake & Nicollet
I'm trying to imagine a Kmart sign on a 10 story building and i chuckled a little They have a few 4-5 story Kmarts in Manhattan. They usually take the bottom 4 floors of a building plus basement. One of them even has access from the subway directly into the basement floor. Here is a picture of the ...

Re: Nicollet Residences
What I don't understand is how Opus was touting this development as a "New York style" apartment building , and now scales it back to 27 floors. Sounds more like a "Omaha Style " apartment building to me! The upper floors are frequently what give a high rise apartment complex ap...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
I just read the article on the Strib site before coming here and was very unimpressed by 9 stories. But seeing that rendering, that is a great building and a will fit in great. Also curious to the late start. Should approval really take that long? The city should have this approved next week!! They...
