Re: Star Tribune
I'm a paying digital subscriber. FWIW: Me too and I basically agree with your analysis, except I think it's perfectly fine that national/world news is mostly copy from other agencies. The Strib made a decision several years ago to put more into local coverage and they have produced many excellent s...

Re: Star Tribune
I'm a paying digital subscriber. FWIW: Pros: -e-edition is worthwhile for a scroll through the day's stories - (even if linking to it is difficult and generates a weird alternate link) -no annoying paywall reminders (yeah, easily avoided but it's a pain and I was doing it often) -Supports local jour...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
28th Ave and 34th Ave are just jokes of collector streets with all these damn 4-way stops. I can't think of a similar street elsewhere in the city that carries >6,000 AADT and stop signs every 1-2 blocks. Can you imagine Bloomington Ave or Chicago Ave having 4-way stops every 2 blocks? Not a chance...

https://i.imgur.com/pwgh8t1.jpg Here's a fun one - I pass this occasionally and always chuckle. It's on the back side of the Ameriprise building behind the elevators going over to Capella/Strib building (which is called US Bank Place on this sign, a name the building had only very briefly at the en...

Re: Breweries and Taprooms
I wonder if other cities with big craft brew scenes have it play out the same way we do, lots of taprooms that only server their own beer with food provided by an assortment of food trucks. it depends on the laws. a lot of states let what we call "brewpubs" go to distribution and don't ha...

Venn had a lease fall through in Northeast (same building as Tattersall) and they've generally seemed to have a rough go getting off the ground.

That's one of the busiest stretches of skyway in the whole system. It's not going anywhere.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
Some preliminary work staging information is up, looks like there will be some pretty significant detours (for both cars and various bus routes) over the next four years. http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i35wminneapolis/ Wow, going to be some staggering, long lasting impacts from this proj...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
MPD has been talking about changing Washburn'a boundaries to reduce overcrowding. But the pushback has been fierce Multiple families near me have moved literally blocks so they could be in the Hale/Field/Washburn zone rather than the Northrop/Roosevelt zone. We learned with Southwest that the answe...

I too agree that there should be a coffee shop at 34th and 46th. I think it's close enough to the Blue Line stop that it could get some of that morning walkshed traffic, but it's more "neighborhoody" than the Oaks Station Place. And I have no idea how that Oaks Station Place storefront wi...

Adrian's Tavern (at 48th & Chicago) is closing. A new bar will open in it's stead. http://www.citypages.com/restaurants/beloved-minneapolis-bar-adrians-tavern-will-close-and-reopen-under-new-ownership/405478595 There have been rumors going around that Town Hall is involved... no idea if that me...

Another Ward 11 person here and the analysis is spot on. I helped Matt campaign a bit in my hood and I found that there was appetite for a different candidate. I think it's going to be tough to beat a non-controversial incumbent though.

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)
Huge bummer. I used at least a couple times a month for short gap fillers between transit and home. Looks like I'll be doing more Lyft and Uber.

I sometimes ride one of the WB 46 buses headed for Washburn during the school window in the morning. It's heavily used by the high school students.

A lot to offer there - nice overview. We live closer to 48th/Chicago node but spend a fair amount of time at 34th and 50th as well.

I've had some of the Korean BBQ food. The owner was at a neighborhood event serving it. Good stuff, glad to see it coming into the neighborhood.

The average monthly billing is a no-brainer. It's a completely free service that makes your monthly billing much more predictable, unless you're worried about losing that 0.5% interest on the $80 balance that they're holding for you. I've gone with and without HSP. I'd say if you have newer boiler/...

There's really nothing unique over countless other bars that have paid any attention to nurturing craft beer. No thrill to pour your own for many - in their setup you have to pour a full pint. (where i've seen this model be more successful in other markets is when you can pour any amount you want an...

Re: Food Trucks
for someone famous like Zimmern, there are of course higher ROI opportunities than a food truck and he's found some of them. The headline that they "don't work" is pretty terrible.
