Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)

Yeah, I’m not judging the street level presence yet. Minneapolis far too often, especially along Nicollet, sucks at getting buildings built with great street level presence and I’m just numb to it. Which is so odd because "0-15 feet are the most important" is pounded into our heads during...

Re: 1500 Nicollet Avenue - Dominium Development - 6 stories / 184 units

Unless you've got the money to do a full cap between bridges (like a First Avenue to LaSalle type situation), it seems like your best bet is just to make the bridge wide enough for nice sidewalks and call it a day. I think if the desire is to encourage walking across these awful border conditions, ...

Re: 1500 Nicollet Avenue - Dominium Development - 6 stories / 184 units

So in regards to the barren highway crossings, I live in Columbus OH currently and I know that most self proclaimed urbanists have heard of the High Street freeway cap, but there are also smaller scale parklet type "caps" (more like extended sidewalk with grass and wall) that makes the cro...

Does it mention a height increase? Is this an addition to the apartments or more of a swap? Sorry, locked article.

I freaking love this because its kind of like "hey, we are literally taking our money somewhere else and waving it in your face."

It's a slight victory to me.

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis

The thing is, in these examples I wonder if the balconies actually encroach on the public right away or if the sidewalk being paved wide makes it seem so. The sidewalk could very well be half in the right of way and half on the private lot.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Random thought - does anyone else think if this were built with mixed right of way, and some people saw they could drive on the tracks, that in places along the Green Line they might also think they can drive on the tracks. I know there's the 4" gradual curb but still.

The turret though, was this designed by Michael Graves' ghost? Looks like they were inspired by the Kjeungskjær Lighthouse . Haha my exact first thought. Low and behold, the have it as a precedent image. Massing is solid. Good density. Color is maybe not my favorite. Other than that, throw it up.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

New LRV must have arrived. Metro Transit bought 3 or 4 LRVs for the Super Bowl. I do not believe they are the Type 3.
Out of curiosity, do you mean 3 LRV aka one train or three full train sets? If it just 3 LRV, I feel like one extra train isn't going to make the biggest difference.

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

Completely eliminating 2nd Ave S including sidewalk between 28th St and Lake St. Of course, this also includes the desire-path up the 28th St bridge abutment, which was a shortcut to avoid the severe jog in the actual sidewalk (meaning this area has already been walk-hostile, but it's getting worse...
