Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election

I can't see the DFL doing that at all. I assume that this small group likes having a disproportionate impact. "The world is run by those who show up" and all that. I don't disagree with your idea, I just don't see the DFL party heads undoing years of tradition. I think it would be easier /...

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)

John, check out One on One. It's right around the corner from here at 117 N Washington http://www.oneononebike.com/

We might need one on the other end of downtown, but not here.

Re: Midtown Corridor

Love the stop spacing on the greenway streetcar. I like that they will study enhanced bus on Lake Street as well as Midtown Streetcar. They serve differnet purposes and have vastly different implementation timelines. The only part I don't like is that it's a cop out for studying a way to extend the ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Yes, I understand that having $10 at once would seem like a fortune to some folks. But this is the Red Line we're talking about, not the homeless living on the streets. How unlikely is it that someone would be boarding at these stations that was in that kind of financial predicament? Plus, I looked ...

So the Z&P Committee denied the appeal. It went on to full council and for some reason they re-referred it to the Z&P Committee. I can't figure that move at all...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

You won't. You'll have a GoTo card like every other decent human being living in the 21st Century.

(Note: buses may well have standard fareboxes, I am just hoping they don't. The correct thing to do would be to have a TVM at every station, but I swear I read that they won't)

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election

I completely agree with that sentiment. But rather than telling the DFL what to do with their convoluted party processes (and trusting them to do it), wouldn't it be more effective to change the City charter so that candidates cannot list ANY party identification/endorsements on the ballot? This is ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

The buses will have card readers (at front & back doors) because there will not be TVMs (ticket vending machines) at every single station. Only the major ones/transit centers, as I understood it. Fingers crossed that the buses DO NOT have traditional fareboxes... I assume the idea is that by put...

Re: 35W North - MnPass and BRT

Interline it with the Orange Line!

From the south: via 35W, 4th & 5th Aves, Gateway Ramp, Washington, & back on 35W.

4th & 5th could be done in a Marq2-lite fashion, for far less money. Also, Gateway Ramp is skyway connected.

Re: 35E Between Mississippi River and Downtown

Last session it was some legislator from Eagan that led the charge to the speed increase, but I think he's gone now, as Eagan turned blue. Who was it this year? It's 45mph for a reason and the neighborhoods in St. Paul don't want it increased. It's always some suburban or exurban legislators demandi...

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election

Turnout was "high": http://www.journalmpls.com/news/2013-ci ... t-caucuses

I put that in quotes because it's still an absurdly low # of people going to the Citywide convention compared to the total voting eligible population.

Re: Southeast Library - (1222 4th Street Southeast)

While that all sounds great (and I mean that, not being sarcastic), you have to factor in the limited hours that this small branch library can provide said resources. They can't possibly compete with nearby coffee shops or U libraries for early morning, light nights, or weekends. Having a limited-ho...

This is going to have a lovely view to the northwest, until the adjacent property redevelops: http://goo.gl/maps/RIWGW It certainly explains why there are no units on the first floor on that end of the building. Beyond that "Tubs" building in the Street View link above, is Metro Transit's ...

Re: Southeast Library - (1222 4th Street Southeast)

I don't know...is this library really necessary? It has extremely limited hours and selling the land would fetch a pretty penny for the county to use on other things, namely increasing security and staff at Minneapolis Central Library and expanding hours elsewhere. This location is so close to Centr...

I wish someone would say that at a public hearing. I have resisted getting involved in the circular argument that's consumed this thread ever since the HPC granted the appeal, but I couldn't resist applauding that particular statement. In an attempt to bring this whole thing back into focus, apparen...
