Re: London
Perhaps it's changed for the better since you've been talindsay? It was 2011 when I was there. I did encounter the maintenance signs and service outages but only a couple times. And even then, a bus was a reliable alternative. I took the Northern Line from Highgate to Goodge St and back everyday, bu...

He's on the KQ morning show too, I think they're still the #1 morning show... but don't quote me on that.

Re: Star Tribune
Bob Sansevere. But your point still proves true.I can't think of any major Star Tribune sportswriter who doesn't have some affiliation with a local radio station, for example, but I can't think of one Pioneer Press guy who does.

Re: Star Tribune
Sort of off-topic, but what would they call it if and when they merge? Pioneer Tribune? Star Press? I would vote for the PP name to just go by the wayside and keep it as the Star Tribune. It's just cleaner. But I could understand why and would expect that many would be upset by that.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
You're right. And the new Vikings stadium will inevitably take its place, especially after the Final Four and Super Bowl.Honestly, the most identifiable building in Minneapolis was probably the Metrodome. The Guthrie is unique, but it's not really well known.

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
It would be interesting to see what the Twins would do while the games would be going on. I can't imagine they would want to be in town with everything else going on. They would get zero attention and it be next to impossible to get to Target Field. So you could use Target Field for something as ba...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Why are so many only talking about skyscrapers when we are talking about iconic buildings. Is the Sydney opera house not iconic? The Walt Disney Concert Hall? The Guggenheim? Maybe even The Guthrie Theater on a local level Of course all of those buildings are iconic. I'm just discussing "iconi...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Iconic has much more to do with historical prestige than height. Being tallest is one way to get prestige (eg. the Empire State Building); another is a famous architect (Pan Am Building); another is an unusual design (Flatiron Building). You don't need more than one for something to become the icon...

Why not both? All of the buildings I recognize on that page are very tall.

I would also guess the the Target Center would have to be replaced even after the renovation it's scheduled to under go. I don't think the Target Center would have had to be replaced, they used a temporary "recyclable" facility at the 2012 London games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baske...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
We would still have needed a main stadium, no? The new Vikings stadium won't be big enough to fit an oval running track. TCF Bank Stadium wouldn't fit it either.I mean, in fairness to a hypothetical bid, we would have really limited venue construction needs at this point.

Re: London
I lived in London for three months in college and their transport system is literally world-class. It was a treat to utilize a system so seamlessly in a way that only a large world capital can offer.

Does Minneapolis allow signs on its downtown buildings?
This was brought up in another forum and got me wondering... why aren't there signs on the skyscrapers in Minneapolis? Like the Wells Fargo or Travelers buildings in St Paul. Is there an ordinance? What others cities do this? Do you think it's good or bad?

Re: Cover Ayd Mill Road
Capping Ayd Mill doesn't address the primary complaint with Ayd Mill, at least at the north end. People don't want a park because it's needed so much as that it would mean the end of commuter highway traffic dumping into Lex-Ham and Merriam Park neighborhoods rather than 94 where it should be, and ...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Well, the observation decks are obviously big draws. That's a different thing. Right. For example the Space Needle in Seattle or the St Louis Gateway Arch. Everyone knows there's an observation deck, so that's on the list of destinations you'll go to if you're in town. Empire State Building, Willis...

Thanks for this link. All I can say is "remarkable".I had absolutely no idea which thread this would fit into best, so I'm putting it here. Slider aerial photos of midwestern downtowns showing the freeway damage.
