“That is what we are proposing, but we have a long way to go,” he said.
At least they're self-aware.

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
Oh geez, come on people. "Can I get around in a top-15 historic metro blizzard in the entire history of the state of Minnesota?" is not a question people care about when deciding between city and suburb. I would prefer to be less car-reliant than I am now because it sucks to drive in a sn...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
Makes me wonder if there are still plans for this wing to be luxury retail. I don't think Gucci or Prada is going to sign a lease near H&M. Another thing to note is that Tucci Bennuch recently closed and that space is contiguous to H&M. That frees up a big slice of space that also faces the ...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)
if this building was always proposed to be 450 to 500 feet there was never going to suddenly be office with the same amount of apartments on top. This has been the proposal from the beginning. All they did was change the insides. Isn't it the insides that dictate the height of the tower? The demand...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)
I'm super confused about everyone who is gripping about floor counts right now... what did you expect? Did you think the original proposal of 30 to 40 stories of hotel and apartments was suddenly going to jump to 50 stories of office space? 40 stories of hotel and apartments would have put it aroun...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)
Not usually a height diva, but I am a bit disappointed by this project. It's frustrating to see four 30-ish story buildings go up on three contiguous blocks in a period of five years. You'd think a 20-story office component would justify a few more floors. At least it's not Xcel.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
Kroger was interested in an acquisition of Shipt before Target bought it, and these discussions are rumored to be related to an ecommerce-related strategic partnership, rather than a merger. An acquisition is even less likely - the two companies have strong brands, but they don't overlap. Kroger is ...

Anyone know where the employees are coming from? I know Wells has a LOT of people in the area but I figured most of the consolidation would be to the new buildings downtown.

I'm not enthusiastic about it either, but I don't think they're getting built because we're overestimating the demand for parking. People like to have more space than they need 'just in case'. How many spare bedrooms or 3rd garage stalls sit empty/are filled with exercise bikes etc.?

Locked article with rendering from business journals. Also interesting that it sounds like triple five is still earnestly planning to build phase II eventually. I thought it was dead.

This tower is going to make Legacy look like a turd. Think it'll hurt sales? Different price points I suppose, but still.

Not an expert, or even completely familiar with the way signal control usually works. My first thought is that 'holding' the light would impact the crosswalk countdowns.
I'm sure this is a naive question, but why not full preemption everywhere?

This looks like it's topped out. I hadn't realized the top floor was just going to be a part of the amenity deck. Wonder if I could pass for a student to get a tour when it opens.

Re: Southside - General Topics
I think having places like those rather than empty storefronts is VERY beneficial to the city. Some of them are probably the most oddball and interesting places we have, and yeah, people actually have jobs there. I don't really want the base requirement for business success to be that you have a bl...

Yep, the streetcar would probably take 1/3 or less of the ROW. Not really sure why a road is needed through the trench. Funds would be better spent connecting the grid between Stadium Village and Como. I wholly agree. I don't think cars in this trench would provide much long-term benefit. I'd prefe...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map
Took this photo walking by pioneer hall the other day from the south. I didn't realize they'd be tearing down so much of the building! It looks like the south courtyard will be filled in with more building, but the north will remain.
