Re: Longfellow Station - (3801 Hiawatha Avenue)
I'm not sure what to make of this, but I was snooping around Loopnet and came across this posting for the as yet un-built commercial component of this project: http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/MainSite/Listing/Profile/Profile.aspx?LID=18175250 It says there is one 8,000 SF space available in the 10,000 S...

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
Based on the info in the Pioneer Press article mentioned in the St. Paul - General Topics thread ( http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_26477562/downtowns-new-look-think-upscale ), it sounds like the renovation of the old post office could be underway in October. Also, asbestos abatement is finish...

I passed by on the green line last week. There is definitely a large hole in the ground and they are well underway.

Re: West Side Flats - (84 Wabasha Street South)
I walked by a few weeks ago and noticed signs for a Dunn Bros and "Restaurant" in the retail space along Wabasha. No indication of what the restaurant might be or when it is coming. It would be great if they filled those spaces so soon after opening.

Lynden's has been around for years. Where have you been?Nothing about Lynden's Soda Fountain? Jesus, fine, let a Minneapolitan tell you St Paulites to get out every once in a while.

Walked by this weekend and the Shapco building is completely leveled. There was a lot of rubble to clean up, as well as whatever lies beneath ground level, but they are really moving along.

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
According to the latest data from DEED (which is the authority on the matter...they report the data that is the basis of BLS estimates), Minneapolis and St. Paul contain about 29.5% of all metro area jobs (477,250 out of 1,618,000). Just want to quickly circle back on the jobs thing. Thanks for fol...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
I'm quite familiar with that Met Council report and I don't think the methology is great. First, it's not clear they were using the ratio of low-income jobs to entry-level workers instead of the ratio of low-income jobs to workers overall. If it's the latter (which is what it suggests) then the cit...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
People with children live in the suburbs for usually the same common reason: better schools. I get what you're saying and I do think that schools motivate a lot of where families choose to live but I think this is another case of people being really uninformed about city schools and schooling in ge...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
I mean, if you were choosing your residence completely independent of your job, then yes, you'd obviously want to live in the center of the metro area, because it's the center of gravity, employment-wise. But that's not what people do -- the two decisions are interrelated. You're absolutely right, ...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
Is this the statistic from the Star Tribune article a couple weeks ago? If so, I thought that was just blue collar jobs. Then the next week they came out with an article that said the urban core was where most white collar jobs were being created. Good question. The article referred to all jobs. It...

Hampton Inn Prospect Park - 2812 University Ave SE
Planning Commission COW has a rendering on a new Hampton Inn near Prospect Park Station. It looks like it is proposed for the lot where there was a fire last year.
