Re: Architecture Drawings

Remember as well, that the worst case scenario is that you can always transfer to the U after a short stint in community college or another university. I had really mediocre grades in high school and was rejected from the U as a freshman in 2010. I started at MNSU, went there for a year and transfer...

Re: Dinkytown

I still wear a lot of American Eagle stuff (mostly jeans) and I attend the U. There are so many people on campus, you're bound to see a bit of everything. If we were going by what a ton of college students wear, then it could be a The North Face and/or Ugg store. Or a store that sells sweatpants en ...

My guesses are
- American Apparel
- H&M
- Urban Outfitters

...but I was thinking Uniqlo til you said the upcoming Venue retailer already has locations in the metro.

Since the Carlyle was built in 2008, and it's only the third tallest residential building in the state due to the Carlyle (which is the tallest) and Cray (formerly Galtier) Plaza in Saint Paul.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Good public Transit system plus bike infrastructure = freedom as well (basically all of Europe) It's really frustrating to see people give cars an easy pass when you have seen other systems where people exercise their freedoms just fine without. I agree, especially from a financial standpoint. I dr...

Re: Grocery Stores

I think if Cub wants to compete with other grocers in urban neighborhoods, they should follow the Target route and use smaller stores especially in places like Uptown. Supervalu probably could make good money selling off that lot with the potential of a Cub being an anchor retail store in whatever t...

Re: Tolling Urban Freeways

I think having MNPass lanes should be used in lieu of general purpose lane expansions, but I'd rather see highway funds go towards upgrading cloverleaf or older interchanges to have more and more practical space for merging rather than any lane expansions. I feel that much of the traffic jams I get ...

I don't think it's stupid but more inattentiveness (too busy talking to one another). At least they were smart enough to get off at DT East before having to backtrack from West Bank or even farther.

Re: MSP Airport

I just like it because it's easier to access in my opinion, given that T1/Lindbergh is busier. I've never been inside T1 past the ticket counters though, so I guess I might be missing out. I didn't mind T2 when I was waiting for my flight to Dulles though (the only flight I've been on when including...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

Yeah if industrial mainly stayed in the center cities, places like the North Loop or the Mill District would not be the way are today. Though I think that we should still try to keep the majority of the blue collar jobs inside or at least near the 494/694 beltway.

Re: Road Geek Topics

Yeah I don't mind the new galvanized ones (given on many of the lights the paint deteriorates quickly anyways), if agencies they do pick a color pattern - I just hope they finally get more consistent with the light pole coloring. It's definitely not the most important thing a road agency shouldn't b...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Just keep the choices be MetroPass or UPass for U students and staff so they don't have to worry about people accidentally trying to use it outside of campus. And yeah that number seems quite high, I know there are a lot of people on campus but 112,000 cards seems extreme given many won't get it if ...

Re: Road Geek Topics

I've never really liked the tower lights much, I prefer the typical davit lights more. When it comes to lighting on the signs, they could install LEDs now pretty easily I bet. Another pet peeve of mine when it comes to lights in general in the metro, is how the streetlights or even stoplights can be...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder

Sooner or later there is going to have to be a double-tracked (or even triple-tracked in busy areas) layout, and then Amtrak should get priority over one track while the private rail companies get the other. When the other track isn't being used, then it can be used by freight trains or vice versa. ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Yeah I understand why they wouldn't build a wye now, but one thing that seems to hamper our expansion with rail transit is making it difficult to make changes on existing lines (such as the MOA terminus on the Blue Line, Downtown Minneapolis, etc.). Luckily they can still make some changes in the de...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

They could at least allow enough space on the Southwest tracks to allow a future wye, and then have the terminus of Midtown use the same platforms for Southwest's West Lake station (unless that would cause scheduling conflicts). Otherwise a single track for Midtown could be connected to Southwest ju...

Re: Shakopee Rail?

It is unlikely to happen. If regional rail somehow gets to Mankato by 2030, then a commuter rail line could possibly go to Shakopee with a shuttle to Mystic along the same route. But the chance of that happen is pretty nil. Most Scott County residents and politicians are conservative and typically a...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Plus if it went over the Minnesota River, that would make the overall costs of the train to hit over $2 billion easily. Also, putting rail over to Shakopee would be better designed as commuter (and regional) rail rather than light rail. I wrote about the Dan Patch Corridor over a year ago and discus...

Autorized sounds like a pejorative term used to describe the transformation of an historic urban place with narrow roads into a car-centric suburban development with wide roads
