Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
Oh ok I didn't know Zygi got that money. I assumed the building was government owned, kinda like what the Soccer stadium was trying to set up you know sell the site back to the city then lease out the building so they can save money. I guess if zygi owns the building and has to pay taxes on the sit...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
Wait a second, that $220 million goes back to taxpayers for funding the stadium right? NOT to Zygi Wilf right? What are you referring to? What $220 million? The State's portion of the stadium is capped at $500 million. They won't be using any more tax payer money for any overages, so either the Wil...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Wow Nicollet mall must have been flipping epic in it's day! two blocks of 4 story retail plus several other blocks of department stores! I guess it was the "Original Mall Of America!" It's a shame our metro can't support both. I'm not sure I'd conclude that it was ever successful. Or at l...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
BR's space has no exterior windows to speak of, and certainly not fronting Nicollet. You can see this pathetic little window display and signage from 7th Street tho: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.976727,-93.271822,3a,75y,194.27h,91.02t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWEPyANMG2cL6e0ZarPM1pw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656...

and so should city center and gaviidae commons for starters Also... is there anything up on the 3rd and 4th floors in that gaviidae commons building? Not the old red side of the RBC Plaza but the blue side with the water fall? Is it open to the public up there for retail? Nope. ETA: Also, the water...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I've only lived here for a year, but I've biked by there a bunch of times and I had no idea there was a "mall" inside that building. Perhaps that's part of the problem. I completely agree! The signage is way too subtle something more obvious and tasteful such as... This... With retail sto...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Short of the Gap spot. I see no real street level space that Apple could have a decent sized store at. Lord know the developers in this city are clueless as to how to help themselves out and actually work together to get enough retail space to now work with the critical mass of residents. I don't t...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
My wish it that Apple take on the 3rd floor of the Saks space and create a reason to get people up to the 3rd level. Have that their flagship store, How many retailers would want to be near an Apple store for the foot traffic alone. One can only wish for something that could be a catalyst for a rem...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
C'mon guys, is it really that hard to figure our why downtown retail is declining? It's the MOA. http://www.startribune.com/mall-of-america-s-325-million-addition-will-open-in-stages/317431411/ Every taxpayer fueled expansion, every new Arctic Fox retailer choosing to enter the market in Bloomingto...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Plus Sports Authority pretty much replaced Office Depot. Except that it should draw way more customers and foot traffic. And at minimum have in-use doors that face the mall. That's a huge upgrade. If these spaces are not filled soon then things are only going to get worse when Gateway and Ritz bloc...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
None but the boldest of families are going to move downtown (anywhere) without three things within very close walking distance: grocery stores (full service), parks/play space and schools. Right now two out of three are (almost) non-existent and thus, there are very few families. Which two? There a...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Also, put me in the camp (maybe I'm alone in this camp?) that wants this block turned into public space. I know money and The Commons and the park board etc but conceptually a "bookend" to Peavey Plaza (or Loring Park depending on your viewpoint) that could start to create some green conn...

Re: CPM Cheapo Site proposal - 1300 West Lake St
You mean being priced out of the area due to demand for housing there leading to higher prices.I mean, people on lower incomes that used to be able to live close to Henn and Lake are indeed being priced out of the area due to the new development and higher property values...

Re: Dinkytown
On the topic of McDonald's versus the historic district, that "Dinkytown Uprising" documentary I mentioned a couple times seems pretty relevant. That was all about a protest in 1970 to try and stop the Red Barn burger chain from tearing down a site in Dinkytown to make room for one of the...

Or lobby against that, or for an exemption in the future. If the city/county decides to raise taxes significantly, then the team would certainly have to make up for it.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
You're probably a renter, work for the city or live in Maple Grove or something. Yes, I'm probably those things. Or both my home and my office are within the special assessment district. I think the price tag is too high too. I think the design fails to address the structural issues that others hav...
