Re: Pentagon Park (Hwy 100 & Industrial Blvd) - Edina

Hopefully they'll at least reduce that frontage road to two lanes? It's a pretty silly 4LDR right now That’s not part of this project. The frontage road is presumably MNDOT controlled? And Viking Dr. is the southern border of Edina there, so presumably that would be a big, multi-jurisdictional proc...

Re: Pentagon Park (Hwy 100 & Industrial Blvd) - Edina

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of the self-absorbed design. I pushed for the internal east-west street to at least go all the way through for bikes & peds, if not cars. And I wanted a safe north-south bicycle route that was direct, rather than the convoluted one they came up with. Along the same lines of ...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

Imagine being a wheelchair user or stroller pusher on the west France sidewalk south of 66th: https://goo.gl/maps/zxfu15UBX5sLW75Z6 Not sure what you mean. It’s really bad between 70th & just north of 76th on the west side. Right up against the curb. The Southdale District Design Guidelines are...

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

Whenever the discussion goes to ground floor retail this far from the core of downtown, I always wonder what kind of commercial uses people are imagining would even be attracted to such spaces. Undoubtedly the Elliot Park area could use a decent grocery store and some small service oriented operati...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

This project was MNDOT redecking the bridge, making the northbound lane safer, and making the eastbound onramp safer. I’m surprised it’s as nice as it is. If the E Line ends up going down France, then I imagine Hennepin & Edina will have a plan for upgrading sidewalks and lighting, including thi...

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

I assume Multimodal is insinuating that a daycare is too boring/inactive of a retail use to bless the sidewalk frontage of this building (Please do correct me if I'm wrong and that's not what you meant). That's patently absurd. This area and most of downtown is an absolute dead zone with vacant gro...

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

Is daycare a good use for a first floor?
As opposed to a second or higher floor? Yes. Imagine trying to evacuate a daycare with infants and toddlers using stairs verses a door straight to the sidewalk.
Is this very different from evacuating senior housing?

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

And downtown daycares should strongly be encouraged if you want to continuing bringing more residents in.
I just asked if the first floor was appropriate. Nobody’s talking about banning daycare downtown.

Shouldn’t everything be protected/separated bike lanes these days?

This will be with us for 50+ Years. This area is dense & getting denser, next to 2 LRT stations!

Re: Bike Share

An aging population would be more inclined to bike (and not join the merry "why am I paying for this I can't use it" chorus) if they're able to travel further distances without added bodily strain. Isn’t that what transit is for? Bikes are for 0.5-5 miles, more or less. Anything longer an...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

Can verify it’s open. Drove over it yesterday. Sidewalks look pretty puny.
Pretty sure the sidewalks are over twice as wide as they used to be.

I do wish they had a low fence or something other than the curb to block cars.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

I can imagine the area plan for Cahill/70th will get public access into the trail. With the Pentagon Park offices under construction on the far west side it’s unfortunate to not have public access to 77th to there. It’s not much retail, but those little areas could use some help. Wayfinding signs t...

Re: Road Geek Topics

So the first law is only for exactly 25 mph, and only on ‘residential roadways’, right? The definition seems very suburban: “A ‘residential roadway’ is now defined to include all city streets in an area zoned exclusively for housing and are not collector or arterial streets.“ I suppose Mpls & St...

The western portion along the 100 frontage road will start soon. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2019/07/09/pentagon-park-redevelopment-gets-underway-as.html I wish they could have realigned the low-traffic frontage road so that it approaches the intersection in a less awkward direction...

Re: Roseville / Rosedale - General Topics

I’ve never been to Revolution Food Hall, but looking at the company behind it, it seems that it was all run by the same company, with some consultants creating different types of restaurants/cafes. No separate ownership to give each place some flair & individuality. It was doomed from Day 1.
