Re: Single Family Home Architectural Styles in Minneapolis

I’d guess that was built between 1910 and 1920.

The yard needs some landscaping, otherwise a house like that is very much what I’m looking for for our family’s first home purchase (hopefully this year).

Re: Edina – General Topics

Many people will scoff at the “poor rich suburb”, but this just shows that Edina needs affordable housing as much as any place does. Edina needs affordable housing MORE than everybody else in the metro. It has practically none, and that’s no accident. It’s long overdue, but I don’t see where the ci...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

What would you want to see up there? It's VERY industrial along University up there. Feels almost like the edge of the suburbs. Also University is basically a divided highway. Agree....it’s not like this area is going to become the next Uptown (or is it?). I like the infill we’ve seen nearby so som...

Re: Alatus Residential Project - 228 South 12th Street

I’ll be the first (only?) person to voice my distaste for this building. It’s boxy and I really dislike spires on buildings that aren’t amongst the tallest in the area. I can see the endearing features some of you describe but I also think most/all projects in the past 10 years of this scale have lo...

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park

The Elmwood will be shrunk to five stories and only one level of underground parking because rising construction costs ballooned anticipated costs higher. http://finance-commerce.com/2017/07/ballooning-cost-shrinks-senior-project-in-st-louis-park/ It’s actually being reduced to near what was origin...

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

Not to be too nitpicky, but 1,700 homes over 10-20 years is between 85 and 170 homes per year.....not exactly breakneck greenfield development. Blaine built as many units in 2 years in the not-too-distant past (2004-2005). That part of the story is not that interesting. The more interesting aspect o...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)

Yeah, I'm guessing the height will be fairly constant, if not grow a little. Office floors are up to twice as large as residential and hotel floors.

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

Not sure what view the residents are protecting. I bet it has as much or more to do with the “market-rate” housing that’s be part of the project than anything related to height, density or traffic (residential doesn’t drive that much traffic anyways).

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

I think that a lot of people saying "let's compromise and call it Lake Maka Ska" are really just objecting to the name change in a socially acceptable way... That doesn't make any sense. My feels on this, which really don't matter much, are that changing the name from Lake Calhoun to some...

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere yet, but there is a tower crane up at this site.
Awesome news! This is an exciting project! Uptown seems to have a decent number of projects in bloom again (there was a relative lull after the initial boom from 2010-2014 or so).

Re: Midtown Greenway

My understanding is that a parallel bridge is basically a non-starter. Friends of the Mississippi would strongly oppose any new river crossings, and they'd have a strong ally at the NPS.
Aren't those the same friends who usually ride bikes?

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

I had heard that Amazon's focus may shift towards healthcare and biomedical stuff (scary!). That being said, that would obviously benefit MSP as well. IFF that's the focus of HQ2, then I'd think that would highlight the following cities on their list based on this resource alone (in no particular or...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

Regardless of whether the restrictions make sense, they're already cooked into all of the real estate here, and the anchor tenants would need to voluntarily give them up (or sell/trade them). Which could theoretically happen, but it would be a private real estate transaction that the city has no co...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Thanks for that snippet! I'd be a bit surprised if the Ford site or Arden Hills were considered as potential locations, since Amazon's big draw is it's Millennial/tech workforce, and their tendencies for being in lively/engaging areas to work/play. I guess the acreage needed for such a HQ would excl...
