Re: Former Macy's Site

Perhaps I'm being closed-minded, but I can't think of any possible re-use scenario that would be better than razing that building and starting over...
For the love of all that's holy, tear this building down. I want wider sidewalks here. Trees. And windows please, lots and lots of them.

Re: Lowry Hotel Building

I passed by today, quickly, and I think that Ramsey County is taking up very little of the ground floor space (most offices are probably on the 2nd floor). I only say this because only one window bay, maybe two, had Ramsey County signage visible, and it is on the Wabasha side furthest from the corne...

Just discovered there's a webcam on the ballpark's website. I believe the camera is on OMF roof looking NW.

Maybe it had just sounded like it would be EH-run. I could be wrong; I don't have any inside info.

There is indeed going to be a cafe/coffee shop on the corner, run by the organization and open to the public.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topic(s)

But looking at google maps, there is literally 3 huge ramps surrounding this building plus a giant empty lot across the street. This just seems needless.
Hmm yes, probably so.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topic(s)

Regions is huge, and they probably do need a ton of parking. The hospital complex is also pretty cut off from the rest of downtown and public transportation services, so getting there without a car is certainly not the easiest task.

Re: 5th & 6th Streets in downtown Saint Paul

The whole sidewalk area north of 6th St (between Robert and Jackson) is being rebuilt, and close to finished, I believe. I don't, however, if this improved the bus stop area significantly, or if the sidewalk just needed to be replaced...I haven't gotten a good look at it. I was hoping the 5+6 St imp...

Letter of Intent on the Housing and Redevelopment page states that the retail space in the Lofts at Farmer's Market may be leased by Tim Niver and JD Frotzke (of The Strip Club).

Re: Saint Paul - General Topic(s)

Good bye, Economy Inn. Regions Hospital plans to buy and tear down this horrendous structure on University and Jackson. Even though a parking lot would take its place, I'm still smiling.

At least last week, catenary was up just past the Snelling intersection. I admit I thought there would be more up at this point, but I don't have any worries that we're behind schedule.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

I almost always say St. Paul. Sometimes Twin Cities. Maybe because its the capitol city that everyone learned in school, or the people I've talked with, but I have yet to run into someone who doesn't know where one or both of those places are, and I've been to 40 states...

Re: Rayette Building - (261 Fifth Street East)

So, it won't be as nice as this ? Haha! But I do agree it's not as interesting architecturally. At the same time, it's still different than most of the new construction going up now. An it's also different from the other warehouses around it. It's still got an old, strength of character of sorts. I...

A building across from the Penfield, on the east side of Robert St, now has its front torn off and plywood covering the windows. Anyone know what's going on here?

Re: Saint Paul streetcar study

I completely agree with you, mattaudio. I think, as far as West 7th goes, all that these separate studies confirm is that, yes, indeed, we do need something on W 7th. I personally think LRT is the best option, along W 7th and the Ford Spur. Just thinking about Riverview makes my head hurt sometimes....
