Re: Uber hits the Twin Cities
That is cool, but they're walking a really fine line regulatorily. Not knowing the specific details of state limo laws and how they interact with local cab laws, I could see their service lying on either side of the legal boundary. It doesn't affect me, as I haven't gotten into a cab - never mind a ...

I'm not so sure about Third, but I'd really like to see Fourth / Riverside reconnected. In its current state Riverside is this odd orphaned major artery between two freeways, and living in Seward I'd like to see the better access to downtown that would come with connecting it. Unless things change d...

Re: Surly Brewery Site
Yes, if we're stuck with the environmental damage regardless it makes a lot of sense for the public to pay for environmental remediation now, rather than letting it sit, and get this land back on the tax rolls and into active use. I don't think we should give direct subsidies for Surly to relocate; ...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Yes, the catenary is the top wire and is called that because "catenary" is the geometric term for the curvature of a freely-suspended cable under gravity - the top wire hangs in that way, and the bottom wire is kept straight via drop wires of varying length that account for the catenary sh...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System
I think a Greenway streetcar should run from West Lake to Raymond station. It could run in the Greenway from West Lake to Hiawatha Lake Street Station, with a station platform at ground level oriented roughly north-south just west of the Hiawatha light rail platform, in the free space north of Lake....

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System
A DMU could roar away from the curb and a trolleybus could glide away too. You're justifying cultural feedback effects by pointing at misidentified differences. If we want the "image" of an urban city, then streetcars would do that. If we want to move people around, we could do more of th...

As much as I hate to say it, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that Ms. Meeks might not be wrong on this one. The problem is, you have to either do your business or get off the pot, and they chose not to do their business properly to start with, and now they've been dawdling on the pot. This pr...

I saw 104 out in service tonight, fully repainted as well. How many of them are repainted?

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
Meh, people praised the look of the Flexity Swifts eight years ago; some people get caught up in the idea that something needs to be up-to-the-minute to look good but the reality is that trends in what looks "contemporary" and "up to date" change just simply for the sake of chang...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
Funny one would describe the Type IIs as "pretty" - I think aesthetically they're a major step down externally, and internally they're maybe a slight improvement but still not terribly pleasing. With that said, I don't think aesthetics is a high priority for this sort of thing, and utility...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
I do legitimately think it would be a good idea to ditch the current cut-to-the-bone buzzer noises with nicer chimes. I'm fond of the SNCF jingle: [BBvideo 425,350]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbDwzNN2PuA[/BBvideo] Wow, it's been a while since I heard that - yeah, that's much better than our bee...

Re: Type II LRVs - Siemens S70
I'm sure that they're all snazzy and new, but I think that I prefer the look of the old trains. They seemed more aerodynamic and fluid -- these ones feel a bit more boxy. The Bombardiers are French-Canadian; the Siemens are German. Of course the French ones were more aerodynamic and fluid; but the ...

Re: Introductions
Hey all, so I just became aware of this site. It looks like the old site actually *is* functioning again now; but since the traffic appears to be here now I guess that's moot. Anyway, good to see you all again. Several months without the site means it's not part of my routine, we'll see if I start p...
