Re: Minneapolis City Council and Park Board Elections 2017

Jeremiah Ellison(Keith Ellison's son) is running for city council in the 5th ward. I assume Blong Yang is planning to run for re-election. https://www.jeremiah-ellison.com/ I really like his specific support of complete streets. Besides just being nice to have, it really is an issue that disproport...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Being (perhaps) excessively cynical, I can't imagine Lake or Lagoon seeing lane reductions through here unless a high-profile traffic fatality occurs. The fact that so much development and retail growth has taken place already, despite the hostile roads, probably makes it harder to argue that calmi...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Maybe this is the wrong thread but anyone ever think about calming traffic on Lake and Lagoon? Went to Lake and Irving restaurant last Saturday and I noticed how dangerous and unpleasant the traffic is there. Could easily be two lanes plus a bike facility.

Re: CPM North Loop Office Building - 419 Washington Ave N / 420 N 3rd St

I'm not a huge fan of any building in that spot with that much parking. That will definitely encourage more driving in the area.

Re: Presidential Election 2016

Many sources are attributing this tightening of the race to #neverTrump Republicans "coming home", so to speak, moreso than the FBI's October surprise. They may hate Trump, but they're still lifelong Republicans after all (which means they REALLY hate Clinton). These folks were likely rec...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

High Street in Columbus is the best example I can think of: https://goo.gl/maps/99o9gKZvLSU2 https://goo.gl/maps/2LypUktfZv62 Looks great, I wonder why we don't do this more often. You could cover an awful lot of freeway like this, without having to build it as a full lid/tunnel. Would work especia...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Yes, I've suggested this before, and it's a technique that's used in other places. Even if you decide to *develop* over the freeway, you don't need to develop a full block - just line the sides of the bridges, and leave the center of the "block" open to the freeway below. It dramatically ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Wasn't sure where else to put this but I had an idea related to putting lids on freeways in Minneapolis. As we know, covering a section of freeway is a pretty large project. But what if we just widened some of the existing bridges that cross freeways enough so that you get a better pedestrian experi...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

What they should do is seal off the West 94 entrance so the cars don't back up along 15th. I ride down Portland every day and that area is always very backed up and it's a hassle for both cars and bikes on Portland. And then tear down 94 altogether. Only being a little facetious on both of these.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

That's not entirely true--the North Loop had a much more regular grid in the late 19th century. That massive superblock north of Washington from 5th to 10th used to be split by 6th-9th Sts. The only superblocks in 1892 were the railyards blocks (now Riverstation) and the ones now split by tracks/th...

So they're planning to demo the three buildings south of the Foundry? Two of those are contributing properties to the historic district, no? That'll go over well.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Not just you. When I lived at 13th and Hennepin and walked down Hennepin to work in the morning, I'd find the crosswalk at 12th blocked by an express bus as often as not. Way worse. When I caught the 3 from 4th & Hennepin there would be a constant stream of MT express buses + opt-outs. The opt-...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

One thing I'd like to see at 46th and Portland are shorter yellow lights. I think they're WAAYYYY too generous now and people just blast through them. Is that at all possible to try to get done? I've tried complaining to Elizabeth Glidden and 311 about it. Glidden tells me she'll forward my message ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

I'm surprised that even with the two lanes closed right now for construction, traffic is zooming along at roughly the same clip. Will the new lane lines do anything to slow people down? Richfield did some before-after speed studies on Portland Ave and Nicollet Ave after conversion from 4 to 3. In g...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

46th Street is happening! Confirmed: - The county re-poured curbs at the narrowed refuge island at 17th (the initial plan was for them to saw the concrete and pave right up to the cut). - The median at Oakland Ave will be full concrete, rather than sticks! - Nicollet at 46th will be 3 lanes in each...

(Sorry, MNdible)
Between this and the Blaisdell redo, they're doing a bang-up job of making it really difficult to get around this part of town.
Not for me, riding a bike in my part of town gets easier everyday.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

What do you all think of the raised and protected bike lanes on Park and Portland by the stadium and Commons park? The seem no better than regular sidewalks, peds like to linger in them and cars won't see you as you cross the curb cuts or merge back into traffic when the lanes end. Why was this desi...

Re: Presidential Election 2016

I can't bring myself to vote for Hillary due to my anti-dynasty stance I've outlined before, though I'm planning to evaluate the option of writing in Tim Kaine's name for president and someone else for VP.
How would it be a "dynasty?" Is she Bill's sister?
