Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections

Once the boomers are no longer voting, there will finally be open borders. So, yes there will still be a housing shortage. Don't be so sure, we have a pact that we're taking out the millennials before we go. I agree with Chef, there is a lot of room between free range and booting everyone.

Re: Nicollet Mall

I was just looking at that this morning with another person and it looks like the leaves are just starting to pop out. They may just be delayed a little bit from the shock of being replanted last summer/fall. I know the first year my boulevard tree went through a winter we had the same thing. I hope...

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park

Good for everybody!! I can't tell you how many times I've seen not only cars not looking for cyclists, but cyclists ignoring cars and blowing through the intersection. Can't believe I haven't seen someone killed there.

Good to see; I started having my doubts this thing would ever get done.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

I was just at that theater about a month ago with my daughter and the first thing I thought when I walked into the lobby was that it looked run down to the point that they were on the verge of remodeling or closing. The place has not been kept up very well and would not have lasted much longer in th...

There's an eye clinic on the top of Medical Arts that has a really cool space. The main doc there has a fireplace in his office/exam room.

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

I'm curious to see what, if anything, happens with the Pentagon Park properties in the next 5 - 10 years. We've now had 2 different companies fail at getting anything out of the ground. We had a pseudo proposal for Allina that seems to be dying on the vine. We've had 3 master plans in the last 5 yea...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)

I wish everyone complaining was just honest and said "I wanted the Duval building and will accept nothing less than a supertall" because a lot of the griping doesn't make sense except in that context. That's the thing, I don't think that the Duval would have been good on this site; somewh...

Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)

In my case I'm griping because they only have 18 condos in this thing. It's laughable! Why even bother? Any other development that you have seen with a Four Seasons has a SIGNIFICANTLY larger housing component, this just seems like a joke. UP - Underwhelming Properties.

They also have a site in Eagan as well, off 55 just east of 35E. I think that site is close to 100,000 sq. ft.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

The way it's set up now makes most sense. You'd want the hotel portion closest to HCMC and the housing portion on the opposite end for a little noise buffer.

Hard to believe someone got paid to put this together. A complete lack of vision (and probably eyesight).

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

The offices in the Dayton's building were miserable. As you said, not a lot of windows, but they were also borken up really poorly, low ceilings, really dated furniture and carpet, and poor quality at that. Gutting it an starting over will help some, but will need some creativity to make it appealing.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

That's really interesting. I was basing my information on meetings way back when Hiawatha was just being built; several of our city and regional leaders had gone to Portland and possibly Denver to study regional transportation. One of the highlights that they were touting was streetcars -vs- LRT and...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I think the fact that they didn't lay down tracks seals the faith that it's not going to happen in the next 10 years. When it comes time for them to actually seriously think about the project they are going to say, "Nicolette [sic] [sic] [sic] [sic] Avenue was just replaced, we be wasting taxp...
