Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
This is more than a month out of date, but here's some concepts being looked at for the walls and sidewalk surfaces at Lake Street Station:

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Southwest Transit will be starting a new local route, Route 638, between Southwest Station, Eden Prairie Center, Amazon in Shakopee, and Marshall Road Transit Station. I wonder how they're gonna run this. There was discussion of having an on-demand component to this service. But this sounds like a ...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Looks like MNDOT has saved Northstar Link bus service for the next five years. They will pay 80% of the route's operating costs and also cover 80% of the cost of buying 5 new coach buses. The current buses are past their life expectancy. http://www.masstransitmag.com/news/12281101/pilot-link-bus-rol...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
After this election, I think Minneapolis, Saint Paul and any other city that wants good transit should start thinking about coming up with some funding themselves.
The chances of getting state or federal funding to even expand regular bus service aren't looking so good.

Re: Presidential Election 2016
The good news is that the VAST majority of the things we discuss on this site aren't really impacted by national politics, it's the state legislature I'm watching. I genuinely don't know the answer to this question (and I'm not sure I want to): If republicans have control of all 3 branches, could t...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor)
Hey, that's cool! But I thought they couldn't do door markers, since the Type I and Type II LRVs have different door locations? Or does that not matter, since the Green Line uses only Type IIs? I don't think it will be a problem on the Green Line since it is all Type II. It will be interesting to s...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
New bike lanes are in on 38th St E between Hiawatha and Minnehaha. Looking at them from the bus, they seemed uncomfortably narrow.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
I’m perhaps biased because I’m a Whittier resident who lives within a couple blocks of Nicollet (and previously lived mere blocks from the proposed end in CenHen/East Hennepin/whatever-we’re-calling-it-these-days), but I definitely am in support of the streetcar. I’m a regular route 17 rider, I’d a...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Over in Minneapolis I was just riding on Minnehaha and am wondering why they couldn't upgrade the bike lanes from buffered to protected since it seems like there's room in the buffer to install the bollards that would designate it as "protected". Otherwise they're plenty wide and I didn't...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Is our transit system big enough that people visiting would use it the same way visitors to places like Chicago or San Francisco or Washington DC (maybe lol) or New York City would use those city's transit systems? Normal buses are very difficult to use in unfamiliar cities, liming visitors, I woul...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
2. Given said delays in Nic-Central streetcar and the fact that there will be zero appetite for ripping up the Mall again (even a little bit!) any time soon, the City really ought to open an honest dialogue about building the Washington-Broadway link first. It would serve the red hot North Loop (wh...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Maybe the fare structure is a way to keep it simple for out-of-towners/new riders. They don't have to worry about when rush hour is. If they're purchasing ahead of time, they don't need to worry about "should I buy a rush-hour ticket or a non-rush hour ticket?" Especially since they're buy...
