Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)

My guess is that the reason they aren't suing is because there's a solution in the works (I've heard about it elsewhere).
Any details on potential solution?

Re: Calhoun Square

For the life of me I can't remember and sadly Wikipedia does not list it in their "history" section, who was the original developer of Calhoun Square? Anyone? I know he was involved in other things and at one time had the rights to develop Block E, before he lost it. Bob Lux (Alatus LLC) ...

UrbanMSP-esque sites in other cities

I was trying to find other good development tracker websites/forums in other cities and was wondering if anybody knew of any. The best I found was the skyscraperpage.com for multiple cities but none that have forums specifically for individual projects in specific cities like UrbanMSP does. If anybo...

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)

http://minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcms1p-120725.pdf Looks like they changed it just a tad for the Committee of the Whole meeting. The FAR has decreased from 4.0 to 3.8, but other than that, it looks like the newest version just spells out the other changes more co...

I dont think any retail is going into The Bridges. I think the ground floor is apartment lobby/tenant lounge facing University, at least according to the city documents I found.

Re: Dinkytown

I thought Restaurant Alma was taking over the Dunn Bros. that used to be next to it. That can't be what this is referring to, is it? That is probably what they are referring to if Alma is taking over. Glad that restaurant is expanding because its very good and usually very crowded from what Ive see...

Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)

Walked by this on Lake Street last night. The 2nd floor setback really does a nice job of continuing a solid pedestrian realm all the way to the Cheapo building. Looking forward to seeing the snow melt and having that block of Girard become a neighborhood hotbed for activity this summer.

Re: Washington Avenue

Isn't this a bit unbalanced? Has a compelling case been made for these right turn lanes servicing 4 intersections? Why not re-allocate that ROW to the sidewalks, and widen them?

Re: University District Alliance reviewing parking minimums

Compared to past public meetings, it was very informative, conversational, and relatively helpful. There were a good number of common complaints about parking unrelated to the scope of the meeting (people drop their kid off at day care and park in front of MY house, can you believe it?), but for the...

Re: University District Alliance reviewing parking minimums

As a reminder, this is tonight. I plan on attending so I hope to see some fellow urbanists putting up a strong defense against the MOAR PARKINGers. The city recommendations based from the study call for either eliminating the 1 stall per unit rule, or increasing the 10% reduction of parking in the P...

Re: The Marshall - (515 14th Avenue Southeast)

In a one year time period, this traditionally commercial corner will go from 3 storefronts, a large surface parking lot and an old high-school-gone-semi-failed-business-incubator to 8 storefronts, hundreds of more people using bikes or walking as a primary mode of transportation, and less students c...

I had been wondering why Target has yet to move on campus. It seems so logical, but now it is pretty saturated with two CVS and Walgreens. Well, looks like Target has been paying attention to our thoughts over here on UrbanMSP! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/17/business/target-is-testing-a-small-st...

Re: Dinkytown

I don't know if anybody caught these, but Bill Huntzicker with the TC Daily Planet did a really nice job covering all things Dinkytown, aside from his tendency to not talk to college-aged people. My favorite article was a detailed history into Al's Breakfast: http://www.tcdailyplanet.net/news/2013/1...

This project is moving along quickly. Looks like most of the structure is above the 4-story threshold, with most of it at top height of 6-stories. No siding yet, as far as I can see.

Fences and staging equipment have been moved to the site. Dirt mounds hover over the parking lots. Brace yourselves: construction is coming.
