Nothing entirely new here from the Strib today I don't think, but here it is anyhow...

Re: Lockheed Martin site - Eagan
Are you sure it's too much? It looks to me like they could squeeze 30-40 more stalls in there if they just dropped those pesky trees... Uhhg, so ugly and unsustainable...Om my god that is so much parking.

Re: Mortenson / USBank project - 333 Hennepin Ave E
I'd know where you meant, but as a lover of all things Minneapolis history related I'd prefer Old Saint Anthony meant this area too, not just the blocks surrounding Main Street. But I digress.agreed, everyone I talk to seems to understand thatI say downtown Northeast.

Re: Minneapolis Park System
Seeing as it seems unlikely the MPRB would choose to divest itself of this land, I'd prefer option C since it will keep the costs of upkeep and repair from future flooding down while opening more land for uses more consistent with the needs and desires of the general non-golfing public.

Re: Broadway Flats - (West Broadway & Penn Avenue North)
It's pretty exciting that this area of Broadway could have this and the Sherman project a little to the east coming online around similar times. Community engagement goes up when people are proud of where they live, and both of these projects look like they will up the neighborhood pride level while...

Not dramatic improvements but noteworthy nonetheless, especially the added retail and additional on street entrance.

Re: Broadway Curve RFP - Sherman Townhomes/Carriage Houses
This looks like a nice project, I like the general aesthetic, but I do think it's a little monotonous for both blocks. mo·not·o·nous def: dull, tedious, and repetitious; lacking in variety and interest. You're spot on. I have family in the neighborhood to the north and they were grateful that empty...

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
That doesn't look at all like a cloud formation....more like the steady, creeping hand of Zigi and the gang pick-pocketing the park for all it's worth ("gotcha!"). Maybe I am taking you too literally, but while I can't help but chuckle at the mental imagery you've described, I don't think...

Perception vs Reality: Urban vs Suburban
An interesting bit of work by FiveThirtyEight on what really constitutes an urban or suburban area, at least in the minds of those who live in them.

While standing in stark contrast to the surrounding buildings, I don't think the initial plan here is too far off...
That being said let's placate the neighborhood group and put a one story single use square building smack in the middle of the lot and add more surface parking.

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S
It's also a full city block that has been vacant for 50 years (Hennepin half cleared in '64), aside from the parking ramp (built '82). So basically completely vacant for FIVE DECADES. Well let's be thankful that 50 years of empty is being filled in with mixed use and will be hiding that ramp. Had t...

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)
I find it strange that people have a hard time with walking one block off a major street to get to a destination. Loring Kitchen is 3 blocks off Nicollet and 15th ,those are your main drags. Some of you act as though walking 1, 2 or 3 blocks will keep people away. When the Loring Kitchen opened I t...

Although snarky quotation marks are exactly the type of thing we would do , in this case I think I used them for emphasis because most people here probably are/were unfamiliar with the term. Also, this thread was a combination of two different ones & that probably contributed to the clunky titl...

City as an art installation or city as a functional place for people to use. Take your pick.
Shouldn't we strive to be both?

-1Looks like Mainstreet carries 4400-5400 vehicles per day, so I believe a center stripe is not required. They should go with as few markings, signage and visual clutter as legally possible.

Re: 700 Central Avenue Northeast Apartments
I used to live further North on Central and rode the 10 and 6 over to Dinkytown and frequently waited at the 10 stop here and used the boarded up doorway as a shelter from the elements. I always felt a little sad that a building with such character and strong street presence was just sitting there e...

Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
Hopkins will grow much larger than predicted, I guarantee it. They have a great chance to build out of their current downtown and really increase density. Hopkins has shown it has no real interest in a massive build out of their downtown area, only smart mixed use infill where appropriate. I used t...
