Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

If Dan Patch were to be built, would it take the soon-to-be new connection to the Kenilworth corridor or would it go through Safety in the Park land? There are some compelling reasons to send it through Kenilworth, especially when (when!) Midtown LRT gets built. Even with only a connection to the Gr...

It's been a while, do I remember rightly that the Uptown Bar was demolished to make way for North Face?
For Apple, IIRC.

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

In my view, there's no game of chicken. Losing this mediocre development over a sign dispute would be perfectly fine. I'm ok with leaving this block empty for a while in order to get something better.

The funny thing is, many of those same points can be applied to this forum, to greater or lesser degree.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

The Lindsay Bros. Warehouse part of Riverwalk was converted to condos in the early 2000s. I know because I was condoed out of my apartment. The freighthouse remained as apartments, probably as a hedge against poor condo sales.

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

We should use that to our advantage, instead of stopping every few blocks to drop off green line commuters from EDP and Hopkins but hey, we all got our own priorities. This reads like FUD to me. Any suburban commuters would likely de-train at Uptown. The utility of this route is for everyone in sou...

Re: Midtown Greenway

Finding and lobbying Minneapolis city council members (and the mayor), and Hennepin County Commissioners is an actionable thing. Seriously, who wants to meet regularly, develop an action plan and execute it? There aren't many (any?) other organizations out there right now that will advocate for thi...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

So the express bus might be a little faster. Whoopee. Once people realize (from friends, news, social media) that the train is faster—or even just more reliable—during inclement weather, then they’ll start taking it during inclement weather. Once they do that a few times, game’s over for the bus. M...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

What's the top speed of SWLRT? I'm guessing its average speed will be greater than the Blue Line's since the Blue Line is limited to 45 MPH for most of its route and I don't think SWLRT will have the same limitation. It almost certainly will have a faster average speed than the current Green Line.

Re: E Line ABRT

Routing to West Bde Maka Ska station could kill efforts for Midtown LRT and I'm not ready to give up on that.

I have a feeling that if it followed the old TCRT ROW people would not be happy with a bus running down their alley. :)

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

This "victory" means that we will probably never have useful rail transit in the southwestern quarter of the city. I don't see why not. Midtown LRT follows the route Southwest LRT might have through Uptown. If you mean serving points further south, then yeah, we were never going to get ra...

It would be really, really bad to do SWLRT and abandon Bottineau.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

We shouldn't use property tax to fund transit because it's one of the most regressive taxes we have. The CTIB story is a long one but basically the only way to get it through in 2008 past Pawlenty and get buy-in from counties other than Hennepin was to ensure that any funds raised would be shared. Y...

Re: RE: Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Thanks for this info! I wish the metro would be far more independent from the Legislature's whims with regard to Transit. Here's hoping that change will start to happen. The metro can only be as independent as the legislature allows us to be. Other tham property taxes, we can't just raise funds on ...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I don't think buses are delayed at all on this stretch so a bus lane doesn't really make sense. The turn lane is where ambulances would go. Excelsior Blvd. is SO wide from Meadowbrook to the hospital not only because it is four lanes but also because of the ridiculously wide divider. That's a major ...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

Excelsior Blvd. from Blake Rd. to at least the hospital could really use a 4-to-3 conversion, maybe even all the way to TH 100.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I don't think I'd want (all of) Meadowbrook developed, because Minnehaha Creek runs through there and the area could combine nicely with the area across Excelsior Blvd. into a regional park.

Re: RE: Re: Hopkins - General Topics

It seems strange to me that the area near Meadowbrook is zoned "Suburban" when it has a traditional street grid and strong current/future transit connectivity. Interlachen Park? It's a bit of an oddity because it's surrounded by two golf courses, a large private school campus and a light ...
