Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

The hybrid aBRT would likely only stop at Penn and Fremont acting as an express service through the northside. The streetcar would meanwhile have all the advantages of either mode, have longer station spacing than today's 14 and, yes, connect through to Nicollet. Adding aBRT on top of the streetcar ...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I've also found it interesting that CAC members can look past that. Creating that connection was the whole reason the study happened. The hybrid solves that problem for me.

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

From staff: The PAC asked to see this information at the next meeting. These tests would estimate ridership for: Both the Streetcar and Arterial BRT alternatives with the assumption that the Nicollet/Central Streetcar is in place and West Broadway would connect to it and run south to Lake Street A s...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Strange to hear surface parking for this park and ride. Earlier iterations showed a parking structure built into the hillside masking any structure in a plaza or green space. I hope that was just bad reporting. Makes me wonder how they're handling people parking at the golf course and hopping on at ...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

What exactly are you guys arguing about? David doesn't think economic development should be the sole reason to build streetcar. Peter and Alex seem to be questioning the wisdom of spending limited funding on a streetcar when the ROI might not be there. It seems like you all might agree. As a CAC mem...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I'd say economic development is the main motivator for this project for better or worse. With the C-Line, D-Line and Bottineau this is just icing on the cake over north. Beyond taking you directly down a currently depressed commercial corridor (to thriving Washington Avenue), what transit need does ...

It was also brought up a few times at PIC meetings. Looks like I'd give Mulad the real credit here. Either way it's a good idea. mulad wrote: Seems more practical for the bus to be Penn -> Glenwood -> Van White/Dunwoody, going past the Van White station rather than Penn. Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Interesting note on the C Line: • Identify long-term (Phase II) east-west alignment and station locations (Olson Highway or Glenwood Avenue) Maybe someone's listening to David Greene out there. Or their listening to the Penn Avenue Community Works committees and residents. Harrison would be the sin...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

That building is complete and Sherman has been granted development rights to the next vacant stretch to the east on both sides of Illion. There was a time when land taking was probably an option. That's not as easy now. Back in the real world we've got a serviceable alignment that will be very usefu...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Early on in the Penn Avenue Community Works process the powers that be decided that there wouldn't be any retaking of county/city right of way. A foot or two in each direction would've made bike lanes possible. That single move compounded with an insistence on 11 foot lanes (the accordian buses on t...

Here were Barb's two responses: Scottie, I have lived through Dream Homes, mobile homes, and proposals for cheap multifamily construction. I really think it is important to have a full community discussion about this proposal, given that we have multiple sites on Penn and Fremont that are ripe for r...

North was 42% black, 30% white, 13% Asian and 8% Hispanic in 2010. The neighborhoods west of Penn and north of Dowling are generally majority Caucasian and the rest is majority black. Hmong population is mostly in Jordan and Near North. As for Johnson, I think she has a very real fear of her distric...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I don't have strong preference for either Oakdale/France/WBroadway or Bottineau, but the consultants believed there was more redevelopment opportunity along the arterials. I don't have the data, but there is more density south of Bottineau and quite a bit of nothing north including Crystal Lake. Thi...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

If the 4th Street Viaduct, and its giant off-ramp, is ever removed there might be a bunch of developable land on the west side of Washington. In its current state I'm not sure what would fit in the green buffer that exists or who would want to locate there. 2nd St will do. https://www.google.com/map...

Re: West Broadway Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I think there's an argument to be made for running aBRT down Bottineau, but Oakdale/France/West Broadway will serve a lot more population and retail nodes. Not sure what you mean my 2nd Street in the North Loop. The line will run down Washington in the North Loop and then move to 2nd Street north of...
