Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
Seems like a missed opportunity to call it South Loop Station since it's right in the middle of that area.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago
Hopefully CPKC doesn't assume we/Amtrak aren't planning more trips to be implemented eventually. The agreement on a second daily train is of course good news, but the MSP-CHI market is long overdue for multiple roundtrips on multiple routes.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
In Oslo they have a free shuttle bus to Ikea. It's quite popular, especially with university students like myself when I was there in 2015.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
No one is saying transit should replace all car trips, but we need a much better transit system so that more car trips can be substituted with transit. Take for example the fact that, even prior to the pandemic, me taking transit from Bloomington to visit a friend in Maple Grove was virtually imposs...

I'm guessing they prefer riders not having to use stairs or elevators to access the platform.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Nothing wrong with looking at initial data and seeing what the data and predictions were pre-pandemic. I don't think anyone is expecting the Orange Line, or any route for that matter, to have pre-pandemic ridership levels in the near future. However, looking at pre-pandemic ridership vs ridership no...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
If those are the only options then I guess I would choose the interchange option. Not sure how well it would work as a gathering space; the biggest deciding factors would be how much traffic and noise there is. Or maybe build a little convenience store under there. Lots of stations, even small ones,...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
On average, about 600 rides are being taken on the METRO Orange Line each weekday, twice the amount taken on the route it replaced, Route 535. Tis a bit grim, but we are still in a pandemic and seeing a double in ridership. Source: Metro Transit Insights(weekly employee newsleter) A far cry from pr...

Interesting little fact: Today marks exactly 20 years since MnDOT and consulting firm Parsons Brinckerhoff released the commuter rail feasibility study on the Dan Patch Line.

Also, waiting around in a heated college where you can do your homework or having a snack (there's a zillion formal and informal spots to sit down and do so- my favorite was on top of the radiators in front of the 2nd floor glass wall facing the parking lot) until it's time for your bus would seem ...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Speaking as someone who used to take the 535 regularly to normandale, looking on the schedule off of google maps the orange line doesn't seem it would of made my commute easier since the time savings are mostly undercut by having to wait for a transfer to the 539 and iirc the 539 still only runs ev...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Wonder how many 535 rides are going to switch to the Orange Line, and how many are going to switch to driving because of how much more inconvenient the Orange Line is for them? Are you saying the Orange Line is less convenient than the 535 for all trips that were made on the latter route? Because i...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
If this hasn't been done already, it would be nice to survey Orange Line riders who used the previous Route 535, especially riders who now have to transfer instead of a direct trip like students going to/from Normandale College.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
I agree that reporting the ridership of a few trips doesn't determine the overall ridership of the Orange Line, but midday on a weekday should have at least a few riders on each trip. Ridership is down on the aBRT and LRT routes because of the pandemic but there's still a decent number of people usi...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
The parking ramp closest to the station at Heart of the City is one block away. Not sure if park & riders can use it but I don't see why not. It's not like that area has limited parking, and it's an acceptable walking distance from your car to the Orange Line stop. Fort Snelling Station has a pa...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Since it hasn't even been a month since the Orange Line started I'm guessing we won't have ridership data for it soon, but when can we expect to get that? Would be nice to know how it's going, and would especially be nice to get ridership data for each station. Also anyone know if they reported on r...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
A shame that for some reason when there’s a lot of snow Orange Line buses don’t use Heart of the City Station. Doesn’t exactly give people confidence that they can rely on this bus line in the winter.
