"Party types" are telling her to run. She probably means other old people.

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

While I personally agree that the infrastructure should be future-proof (LRT-ready), I thought one of the cost savings of streetcars was that you didn't have to cut as far down into the pavement due to the lighter weight. With streetcar tracks you can just shave off several inches and embed the trac...

Re: Midtown Corridor

A little public investment and guidance would allow these private buildings to potentially walk out to the trail or a transit station, and they could even serve as ADA-compliant vertical circulation.

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Geez, with that desciption it sounds like the line won't even cross south of 94. That removes one bridge replacement, for now anyways. The most obvious and largest redevelopment areas are 1. all that vacant land just south of 94 2. Kmart site (and surrounding area too) 3. north end of Nicollet Mall ...

Re: Guess When the Green Line Starts

It will almost certainly be 1. at the same time as the May drivers' pick. 2. not while the U is in session, and definitely not during finals week Keep in mind, it isn't just the Green Line starting service, it's the entire restructuring of bus service, including new and heavily modified routes, and ...

Re: Green Line (Central)

Perhaps the % complete is calculated by dollars spent? Or percent complete is construction only, not including testing time? Plus it's going to look really, really good on behalf of the met council and public transit in general if they are able to put out press releases a year from now announcing &q...

Couldn't they have figured that out sooner? Like maybe when they were dishing out the millions of dollars to subsidize this thing, several months ago.

Lileks' house maybe? He mentions it briefly, but I think/hope it was a joke. I found this awesome aerial photo of Uptown and Downtown, taken last summer. Right click for larger sizes and you can pan around, catching all sorts of details. This is a great shot. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mspdude/857...

Putting the stations near the center of town, for both Big Lake and Elk River, could have had the added benefit of focusing some in-town development, strengthening the existing "main street" business nodes. The current station locations do nothing of the sort and only encourage more auto-o...

I previously posted this in the 494 thread, but it's even more relevant here: A bill has been introduced recently to fund the 494/35W turbine interchange and American Boulevard BRT Station. Why isn't anyone advocating for pedestrian bridges in this area? Penn and Lyndale are a mile apart and it's no...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

I agree with a portion of that. If you change the geometry of the Green Line to have less of a kink in it, you should be able to scoot Cedar Lake eastward so that it's mostly in Minneapolis. I think it's fine if it straddles the border a little bit, if it makes for a cleaner map. Gold Line : Put (Ru...
