Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
As always, it's wild when you compare the scale of the asks for highways versus the scale of the asks for transit, bike, and ped. Yeah, and is roadway capacity ‘strategic’ anymore? Should it be? Let’s #defundMNDOT and create a Multimodal Transportation Department instead. Too much baggage for MNDOT...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
After further inspection, a couple more things: 1. “Bicycle friendly”. Why not “bicycle/ped/transit prioritized”? 2. Seems a shame there’s going to be so little retail. I get that Site C doesn’t need retail, but the frontage on Excelsior & Blake should have it. I know, I know: “retail is dead”. ...

To support startup firms trying to privatize transit, I can see Republicans supporting micromobility or self-driving cars/Uber.
It would be a fantastic change of heart to see them support BRT or LRT.

I don't see Micro Center choosing a smaller space. Especially not if the rent is higher and especially not if there's not lots of free surface parking. A lot of times the store is packed at it's present size. And the size is part of the attraction. Live in Chaska and need a new laptop? Drive in and...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
I agree about way too much parking. But when Hennepin County has too many lanes on adjacent roadways (Blake & Excelsior) with no dedicated bus lanes, this area will continue to be all about cars, much like the next station down at 36th & Wooddale. High density, but fast, wide lanes for cars ...

Perfect location. Glad the Planning Commission approved it. Does it go to Council now, or is it done?
And, clearly, 3 stories is a skyscraper.

A lot of respondents already have a monthly bus pass, and caffeine is always welcome. How about a choice of a free day pass, fee weekend pass, or $5 off a monthly pass? (It would be interesting to know what percentage of riders have monthly passes.) Or support local businesses. Much like local taxi...

Living downtown or in denser areas isn’t just about job proximity. Some people live downtown & work in the burbs. Living in a dense area gives you walkable & bikeable amenities such as more sophisticated parks, multiple recreational trails, museums, shopping, errands, gyms, stadiums, friends...

Not much in the way of urbanism. Is there a drive-thru at this bank?
Why do we tolerate state highways going through our cities? Kills all possibility of having real neighborhoods.

Re: Road Geek Topics
Constancy would be the reason. You shouldn't have to know what city you happen to be in to know what the default speed limit is. I would not be opposed to a 25 mph residential speed limit statewide, but allowing it to be different in every city is a bad idea. As for the 85% limit, there's a reason ...

I think the ped tunnel is useful regardless of regional connection or not. Crossing 42 on foot now sucks, but a tunnel shouldn't be used as a mitigation technique or justification for making the road faster and more dangerous. Unfortunately, that’s often the entire justification for pedestrians bri...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Again, this is a case where an at-grade rail crossing would make SO MUCH MORE SENSE. BNSF wouldn't allow it, and I don't blame them. Too many possible pedestrians and bikers that will try to beat the train, and these trains go up to 50 miles per hour on that segment. This rail line was built for sp...

In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, it’s usually due to water table issues.I do wonder why they didn't consider an underpass, which could be done with far less total gradient.

On the other hand, will the B Line buildout be concomitant with a repaving/rejuvenation of Selby? Then that’s the perfect time to put in bike infrastructure, too. Too often, cities & regional planning organizations plan only one mode at a time: Selby needs both transit & bikeways—and de-prio...

Re: Highway Transitway Corridor Study
I can buy into the “leave farmland alone”. It’s apparently what’s done in Europe. What they call “suburbs” are more like small nearby cities & villages, out beyond a ring of farmland. I’m OK with that. So then do some of these distant suburban BRT lines (Stillwater, Lakeville?) essentially becom...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT
The streetcar lines started out as hub & spoke but, clearly, once you get a certain distance from downtown (Lake St for Mpls; Snelling for St. Paul), there is clearly a need for cross-cutting routes that help make a grid.
