Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
Over the past few weeks I have been thinking and scratching my head on where the Olympic Village would go. During the 2012 London games it housed 24,000 people then it was transform into low and middle income housing. It has to be relatively close to most of the venues and have great transit connect...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Question: With the Duval proposal having half of the block as a tower and the other as parking would it be possible to tear down the parking part in the future and build a tower in it's place?

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
With the Chamber Orchestra starting to "tune" the Ordway's new concert hall the past few days and the press getting some access to the space Pamela Espeland of Artspcape on MinnPost wrote there is 22 inch thick wall along 5th St to keep the traffic noise out of the Concert Hall. I don't kn...

Re: Ordway Renovation
I was at the Chamber Orchestra last night and at intermission I was able to look though the glass wall that divides the two theater lobbies. While the designers certainly took their styling cues from the current lobby I noticed a few differences. While the carper was blue in the new lobby is still b...

Re: Star Tribune
I can't think of any major Star Tribune sportswriter who doesn't have some affiliation with a local radio station, for example, but I can't think of one Pioneer Press guy who does. Bob Sansevere. But your point still proves true. I had to look up which radio station Sansevere has his own show on an...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
The Freedom Tower is iconic because of the history of the site on which it sits and what that tower represents not because if it's design.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Iconic is a really high bat for anything to meet including a building. In my opinion for something to be iconic it has to be something that is burned into people brain that they will never forget. There aren't that many iconic buildings in the world. The Freedom Tower is iconic, the Statue of Libert...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
While the U's pool is Olympic size the capacity isn't in the ballpark in terms of seating capacity. The pool in London sat 17,500 current the U's aquatics facility sits about 2,500. That's a huge amount of seats needed and short of knocking down the parking ramp next door I have not idea where they ...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
Correct we would still need a new main stadium neither TCF or the Vikings as currently designed could accommodate a running track with out significant renovations. I would also guess the the Target Center would have to be replaced even after the renovation it's scheduled to under go. Outside of that...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
But no one says "I'm batting one point zero zero zero," they say "I'm batting a thousand" They call it "batting one thousand" because saying 1.000 isn't fun and saying "batting one" isn't cool, but the two ways of showing in writing this parlance of baseball ...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
I'm just guessing here but I can come up with very logical, simple reasons why the Polhad's would be involved with the MN United bid. 1. The family's development company, United Properties, is going to serve as the developer for the new Farmer Market's stadium and surrounding area. 2. The McGuire's ...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Don't want that pesky skyline stealing the shot. Believe it or not there is actually some truth to this in a basketball sense. Basketball players are use to having a relatively consistent shooting background behind the glass backboards. While there are variations in the different arena's it the Big...

Re: *F antasy maps
I can't find the article right now but I remember reading not too long ago that the Ordway designed their new concert hall to be acoustically sealed so there would be no outside noise coming in. I'm not sure about the main theater but with the double set of doors going into the hall I would guess it...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium
i wish MLS played their season at the same time as the european leagues. roughly sept to april/may. obviously that would require a roofed stadium here. so it's beneficial for a potential team here that they play a schedule starting in march. 8 acres is enough for a simple soccer facility, similar t...

If this project doesn't happen for whatever reason I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. At the end of the day you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. And for multiple reason's, interior and exterior, out Target Center is a sow's ear.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
I think it's really hard to judge the future expansion of the Mall based only on a two arial maps of the lay out. All it does is give you an idea what going to be in the future the mall. Not to mention over the years we have seen many different renderings what the expansion will look like so I would...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
As I said I like Lileks more the most part but when you use satirical snark, especially in a newspaper which by definition is non-satirical, the satirical nature of a piece isn't always clear. And when you combine a satire with snark on somewhat regular basis you are going to come off as a jackass e...

For the most part I think Lileks is pretty good but sometimes, and too often for my taste, he goes from snarky to being a jackass. This is one of those times.
