Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics

If it's a project by the university would it be exempt from going through the city?

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

The 442 and 444 also serve MOA to Cedar Grove (and stop adjacent to the mall instead of in the freeway median). 442 also stops at Palomino Hills which has a few apartments and trailer parks nearby. The 140th St Station seems really poorly placed for where riders would be coming from. 147th and AVTS ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)

MVTA has been improving the 475 to the point that it runs hourly midday now. Improving that more might be an even better solution than the Red Line as it gives a direct connection that skips the MOA stop.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

Previously, the city of Burnsville identified opportunity for a transit station in a redevelopment of the mall. With the roadway revisions happening at 35W & 42 I would hope that extending the Orange Line is considered. I recall that the study said an extension to Lakeville wouldn't generate a l...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

There's a maintenance facility being planned beyond the end of the line at Oak Grove which would have to be relocated. It also looks like Oak Grove is being planned as something analogous to Bloomington's South Loop with higher density housing.

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

My guess is that the ridership isn't that strong and they're trying to make new connections to increase ridership. The extended route with lower frequency still uses the same amount of resources. The south end of the route from Burnsville Center and Fairview Hospital to Apple Valley Transit Station ...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)

Ramsey County needs to figure these issues out. IIRC, the renovation cost around $250 million which is a lot of money for a facility that largely serves as a parking garage and bus layover (and a wedding venue). Amtrak leaving would really cement the renovation as being a colossal waste of money.

Re: Better Bus Routes - Metro Transit

I think bringing back the 27 and extending to the North Side via Lyndale and Dunwoody/Van White could be a pretty interesting concept. On the east side it's a little bit trickier but perhaps something on 2nd or Washington then along 4th/University to Jones/Eddy Hall, West Bank, Cedar, Minnehaha to t...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

The Plymouth & Washington station supports the continued redevelopment of the North Loop. The area around Lyndale & Plymouth is mostly freeway land and the rest is unlikely to be redeveloped. 21st is superior to Broadway because whatever is left of the business community there would never su...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

Maple Grove, Plymouth, and Southwest Transit's dial-a-rides go outside of their service areas to make connections to Metro Transit and everyone is allowed to ride, not just residents of their respective cities. Yankee Doodle and Pilot Knob have very limited walksheds and are really low density. The ...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)

Many of MVTA's local routes have really low ridership. They went on a big local service expansion since the pandemic hit, and it is not surprising that some of those routes have been curtailed. As for the other opt-outs, Maple Grove and Plymouth never had their own local service (although Maple Grov...

Do you have a source for information on this project? Google was not helpful.
It was a part of this study:

There's also a third segment, which would add an interchange at Bunker Lake Blvd.

93rd will be part of a reconstruction that will include converting the interchange at CR 10 to a diamond. 87th will get an underpass and 85th/89th will get right-in/out only turns. 93rd will more or less be a diamond interchange. This project will allow the addition of multi-use paths from 81st to 9...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

My guess is that there's a larger decrease on 4/6/17 compared to the 54. 54 has a lot of airport workers compared to the 4, 6, and 17 that serve a lot of downtown workers. 6 and 17 used to run every 3-5 mins at peak but are now down to 10-15. Also the 54 got the Maplewood Mall extension sometime aft...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)

MT has barely invested in coverage, and in a lot of cases it's actually contracted over the years. 20+ years ago the White Bear Lake area was served with several local and express routes to downtown St. Paul.
