Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Did anyone have thoughts about interlining Red Line through to Riverview/7th Arterial BRT by way of MOA? Seems like it would make a lot of sense so people using Red Line stations (which have good express service to Mpls but not St. Paul) would have a one seat ride to Downtown St. Paul.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

Someday the Interchange should be busy enough with people transferring between four LRT branches and multiple commuter/regional/HSR trains... I think it's fine that we consider it to be a non-bus facility. The only movement that's hindered by being on the west side of DT is north side buses to SW LR...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

I'm just reluctant to mess with express routes, other than maybe switching some to east-west corridors through downtown to open up more capacity on north-south streets like Marq-2. Having taken express buses for many years it seems like there's a different type of ridership and a transfer penalty mi...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

I thought this had been considered before and turned down, and that it was the reasoning behind the Leamington, Gateway, and ABC Ramp depots. My guess is it's a big transfer penalty to take a circulator to a depot and get on your express bus. Despite waiting in the elements, the express buses usuall...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

Why don't we get more buses to run in a southeast/northwest direction instead of southwest/northeast? We have a lot more capacity for buses on the streets than we do on the avenues.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?

^ and I wish there was a way to create a southbound exit from 35W to 3rd Street... if it would help take traffic off Washington it would be a good improvement. Also not sure who uses the northbound 35W to 3rd Street ramp since most people would use the 5th Ave exit. It seems to be mostly for people ...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

I'd rather see buses off Nicollet down the road... multiple streetcar lines in dedicated ROW (Hennepin, Nicollet, Chicago, Broadway, Central, and University SE) interlined on Nicollet Mall and nothing else. Couldn't Marq 2 and Hennepin handle all the N/S buses?

Re: MSP Airport

I wonder what Chuck would think of a center-island LRT station instead of a "pedestrian ditch" in the DDI.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWG49xlZ_eQ Actually, if they hadn't built the American Blvd station to the south, and the bridge was a little wider, it would actually be a good id...

Re: West 7th and Hwy 5

The current 'simple ramp' from WB 55 to EB 7th Street causes backups on both highways due to the current geometry. The new grade separations could be underpasses too... not necessarily flyovers. Also this plan could potentially require only two new bridges, keeping the current bridge from eastbound ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Crazy. It seems like such an under-utilized station, especially with no easy connection to/from Cedar to the north. Anyone seen plans for final build-out so buses have more in-line operation to the station?

Also has anyone seen proposed travel times between MOA and AVTS or any other stations?

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan

I really think you're setting yourself up for major disappointment with this. I doubt a developer would put in anything besides maybe a sidewalk across a giant parking lot that will inevitably separate Nichols and Cedar Grove Station from the outlet mall.

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Yep I wonder who had the idea to put "LRT on rubber tires" on Cedar Ave and then make Cedar Ave even worse for pedestrians as part of the project. The only area of this line that might do well would be the Cedar Grove / Cliff / Palomino areas but they are missing two stations there... The ...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

I just took an architecture tour in Des Moines last week, and it was interesting that one of their buildings had this pink-orange sandstone from the Hinckley area (the rest seemed to have the standard white stone from Indiana/Illinois, and none seemed to have Kasota). It's interesting how we're so u...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

86% of Metro Transit's riders are taking a bus, not a train. The Interchange makes no provision for bus riders. So no matter how much archibabble you write about it, it is a failure as a transit station. But yeah, maybe you've built a nice enough park that people will want to hang out there even th...

Re: Minneapolis Streetcar System

I vote for the cut and cover LRT idea :) especially between Lake/Nicollet and Central/Hennepin because it could interline Southwest via the Greenway continuing on to a line towards Rosedale someday. That's under consideration, right? I've always heard the old Norwest Center was built with some sort ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

Honestly I'm not surprised. This service will be lightly used except for people who need to get back to their transit station mid-day or after a happy hour when the 476/477/etc aren't running. It's sort of a shame this is what BRT is in MN... a color line on a map that will drive expectations or che...
