Re: 301 Walnut (Sally's Building)

I've been boycotting Sally's for four years, because of their (racist) dress code.

I'll be drinking champagne the day the wrecking ball hits that smelly frat-boy magnet...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

Milwaukee's Third Ward and the adjoining neighborhoods along the Milwaukee River are a step above the North Loop IMO. I love the North Loop, but it's about a decade behind the Third Wards development. The Iron Horse Hotel is amazing. I think the Third Ward has been better maintained. In fact, I'd w...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

As far as hotels, I think Dinkytown has one and I know 7 Corners does...though Seward I'm not so sure. Although that neighborhood would really need wayfinding if you ever wanted to easily find Hexagon and Memory Lanes. Somewhat off topic, I'm sure, but I doubt that Hexagon or Memory Lanes will ever...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

There are requirements, I believe in New York, for developers to add greenspace when they build towers....perhaps after a certain height or square footage, although I'm not sure about the terms. There is such a requirement in Pittsburgh, too-- PNC is wrapping some greenspace into its new "green...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects

^^^ I'll let you know after I've recovered from the seizure...

in seriousness, two thoughts: 1.) Since when do we say "skywalks," instead of "skyways"? Didn't skyway make us different and cool??? 2.) Why are we using footage of Twins games in the metrodome???

Re: Green Line (Central)

Were they still going to install more??? There was a lawsuit, then agreed to only plan for extra stations after line was built. I musta missed something, or forgot The lawsuit, as I recall, "resulted" in 3 stations now under construction: Hamline, Victoria, and Western. Although, I think ...

Re: Green Line (Central)

Aren't open air drug markets a sign of a city's vibrancy? Kind of like farmer's markets or sidewalk cafe's? Let's ask Seattle! (in a few years...) Seriously though, I don't really see why people freakout when someone offers to sell them drugs. It's easy enough to politely say "no thank you.&qu...

^^^^No. It was a good old fashioned Cedar Riverside white guy dive... If by this, you mean it was an overpriced concert venue with poor service and unnecessary attitude, then you're spot on. Re: Star Tribune Blocks

This certainly is exciting. 1 million square feet for Wells Fargo would be significantly sized, even if it is spread out over all four blocks, which I have a hunch is not plan A. As a point of comparison, IDS has 1.4 million square feet of office and retail on one block of the same dimensions. So, i...

Random note. Hmm, I have been to Pittsburgh several times the last few years...and while the downtown area is very nice and has beautiful buildings...I wouldn't say it better. It is still very quiet and St. Paul-esque if you will....very quiet. Shadyside is where it's at in Pittsburgh, I would cert...

Re: Block E

A few important things to remember about Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh: 1.) The North Shore is *not* downtown Pittsburgh-- the casino is a couple miles from the core of downtown. 2.) Rivers attracts a clientele pretty much identical to what you'd see at Mystic Lake. In other words, it is by no means &...

And I'm not sure combining and underground layover facility with a park is quite the unique design challenge you imagine. If you want, I can waste some time coming up with examples of these from all over the world, including the USA. Here's an example of a park full of people who have no idea how c...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)

Someone bought it and was intending to raise his family there. It is occupied as far as I know. I did hear a rumor he's pissed about the building next door and stopped paying his mortgage. Side not on the side note: He is refusing to pay his mortgage because he doesn't like the development next doo...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago

There are routes between cities where air travel makes sense. Connecting our medium-sized city to a metro of under a million across hundreds of miles of sparsely populated prairie is about a good of an example as I can think of where crossing an ocean isn't involved. But of course that new rail lin...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago

Maybe North Dakota could kick in some of its oil money to help speed things up (pun somewhat intended). I'd also love to see Minnesota do more to embrace our Canadian neighbors. There is a perception that Minnesota is "almost Canada," but outside of the State Fair adding poutine to the me...
